DIMASUAY, Joselito (Joey)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joselito “Joey” Dimasuay on Wednesday morning, December 3, 2025, at Trillium Hospital in Mississauga, Canada, at the young age of 61. His passing was peaceful, surrounded by family and friends.
Born on February 19, 1964, in San Pablo, Laguna, Philippines, Joselito lived a life filled with warmth, happiness, and strong ties to family and friends.
Joselito was the second eldest sibling. He is survived by his father, Lutgardo; his sister Jocelyn (Arnaldo); his brothers Arnel (Ivi) and Arnold (Roselyn); and his sister Maria Cristina. He is predeceased by his mother, Caridad.
He is also lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews in the Philippines: nieces Airene, Mae, Carla, Ava, and Ana; nephews Jan Jeffrey (Jay), Junel, Arvin, Albert, and Jeroy; and grandnephews Jian and Jared.
Joey will be remembered as a humble, independent, organized, and driven individual—generous, loving, and deeply caring in all aspects of his life. He graduated from National University in the Philippines with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in Saudi Arabia and Singapore before moving to Toronto, where he began his career as a computer programmer with RBC, later joining TD Bank and forming lasting friendships along the way.
In 2011, Joey suffered a stroke that affected the left side of his body. Through sheer determination, discipline, and unwavering resilience, he refused to let this setback define him. He committed to rehabilitation and exercise every day, right up to his final moments, continually striving to improve his mobility and strength. Joey was also in his third year of learning Spanish and had a genuine enthusiasm for studying the language through Duolingo, using it as a way to keep his mind active and engaged.
Joey had a passion for cooking and singing. Friends and family will fondly remember his famous leche flan and his love of karaoke. He cared deeply for his family in the Philippines, often surprising them with thoughtful balikbayan boxes even after his stroke.
He cherished every opportunity to return home, where he loved spending time with his parents, siblings, and their families. He watched his nieces and nephews grow between each visit and treasured every family dinner and gathering. On one occasion, he even traveled home specifically to attend a niece’s college graduation.
During his trips back, siblings and their families from other provinces would often gather so the whole family could reunite for bonding, celebrations, and Christmas parties. Joey cherished every moment of these gatherings—whether dining out, relaxing together at an Airbnb, or simply enjoying each other’s company. He especially loved sampling street foods and visiting nostalgic restaurants like Ma Mon Luk, a place the family had treasured since childhood.
Joey also treated the entire family to memorable vacations. For his parents’ wedding anniversary, he brought everyone on a grand trip to Punta Fuego in Batangas, a gift they all deeply appreciated. In 2011, prior to his stroke, he treated the whole family to another unforgettable getaway at Villa Escudero in Quezon Province.
His most recent trip, in January of this year, was a difficult one, as he returned home for the passing of his mother. Even so, being with his family brought him immense comfort and peace. He had been joyfully making plans for another visit this coming February with his cousins Judith and Chito.
Joey was dearly loved. His cousins, nieces, nephew, goddaughter, and many close friends always made sure he was included in Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other celebrations. He joined friends on a memorable trip to Punta Cana, and Halloween was never missed—his friends took great joy in helping him prepare a costume each year.
One unforgettable memory came from a Christmas party while Joey was working in Manila. During a game of charades, he was given the word “constipation.” With just one hand and a perfectly timed facial expression, he acted it out so effortlessly that the entire room erupted in laughter. It was a moment his colleagues never forgot.
Most recently, he attended his niece’s wedding in Niagara and continued to share in countless other special occasions and gatherings, including birthday celebrations with friends in downtown Toronto.
His presence—and his gentle, unmistakable smile—brought warmth to every room he entered. His absence will be deeply felt.
Cremation will take place on December 6, 2025. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 75 Churchill Avenue, North York, ON M2N 1Y8, with Msgr. Patrick O’Dea, Pastor, presiding. A gathering will follow at the church for those who wish to celebrate Joey’s life and honour his memory.
Rest in peace, Joselito. You will be greatly missed—miss ka na namin—by all who knew and loved you.
