SCALLY, Patrick “Sean”

December 06, 2025 | 4 Condolences

On Saturday, November 29th, 2025, Patrick Sean Scally passed away suddenly at the age of 66.

Sean was born on March 18th, 1959, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was the eldest of five children, born within six years of each other, to Norah Quinn and Thomas Scally. Those early years were loving but chaotic, with much moving around and time spent with aunties, uncles, and cousins who helped the young family. As the eldest, Sean was often relied upon to take care of his younger brother and sisters. He also became his mother’s confidant and companion. He took his responsibilities seriously in those early years, and later, when his stepfather Len Leverton suffered debilitating injuries, he again tried to fill the void. Sean remained close to his mom until her passing.

Sean loved to talk. He was an intellect and an avid reader from a very early age, always with a book on the go. His favourite genre was science fiction. He was an exceptionally talented writer and aspired to author the next great science fiction novel. He could discourse and debate on any topic and never hesitated to take a stance and defend it. Sean had a wicked sense of humour, and his extensive vocabulary and wit could be daunting.

Sean’s main hobby, besides reading, was collecting friends and people. These friends were important to Sean right up until his passing. He was comfortable talking with anyone and had a unique quality that made others feel at ease with him. He collected many friends over the years, and they will fondly remember the times Sean would arrange meet-ups for dinner, coffee or his other passion – the movies!

Sean faced many challenges and struggles throughout his life, but always kept a positive outlook. He always had a plan or a goal he aspired to. They didn’t always work out, but Sean never gave up. He worked in many different roles throughout his life, but became an inspiration to anyone pursuing new goals later in life when he completed higher education in his forties and proudly graduated from Carlton University’s Social Work program. He was also a talented cook and chef who enjoyed creating—and eating—wonderful food.

Sean’s greatest pride in life was his children, Quinn and Keshia. There was never any doubt that he loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. When Quinn and Keshia were young, he worked hard to overcome challenges and provide a home for them in Woodstock, Ontario. Throughout the years and distance, he remained close to his children and spoke of them lovingly. Sean’s soulmate was their mother—his best friend and companion—Karen Bernard. He spent many exciting and happy years with Karen before her passing in November 2016, and he felt her loss deeply.

Sean was a man known for his intelligence, his strong convictions, his humour, and the love he carried for his family and friends. To all who knew him, Sean was a bright presence—warm, generous, and unforgettable.

Sean will be fondly remembered by his children, Quinn and Keshia (Ed); his grandchildren, Brooklyn, Quincy, Cameron, Winnie, Charlotte, and Chloe; his siblings Maureen, Donna (Chris), Terry (Mark), Ryan (Cindy), Dawn and cousin Margaret; and his many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many cherished cousins. Sean was predeceased by his parents, Norah and Tommy.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life is being planned. The family hopes that all those who had the pleasure of knowing Sean throughout his life will join us to say a final farewell once the details are finalized.

I had the pleasure and honour of teaching Sean at Mohawk College many years ago. I believe he took at least three of my classes. He was a very bright light, and enormously popular with the other students (of all ages!). A true people person driven by compassion and understanding! Rest in peace, Sean.

I am just hearing this news and am very deeply saddened. Sean and I had our differences at times but I always respected and cared about him. Sean would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Great heart and a man I will sincerely miss
