Borrowed Angels – Kristin Chenoweth
They shine a little brighter, they feel a little more
They touch your life in ways no one has ever done before
They love a little stronger, they live to give their best
They make our lives so blest, so why do they go so soon?
The ones with souls so beautiful
I heard someone say–
There must be Borrowed Angels, here in this life
They come along, into this world, and make this world bright
But they can’t stay forever
Cause they’re heaven sent
And sometimes, heaven needs them back again
They reach a little deeper, they see what’s in your soul
And even when they leave you know, you’ll never let them go
The world’s a little richer, just cause they came along
Their love goes on and on, so why do they go so soon?
The ones with souls so beautiful. I heard someone say–
There must be Borrowed Angels, here in this life
They come along, into this world, and make this world bright
They can’t stay forever, cause they’re heaven sent
And sometimes, heaven needs them back again
How else can you explain why they’re here and not here to stay?
I believe there must be, must be
Borrowed Angels, here in this life
They come along, into this world, and make this world bright
But they can’t stay forever, cause there heaven sent
And sometimes heaven needs them back again.
And sometimes heaven needs them back again.
This song was initially recorded by Kristin Chenoweth as part of her album “As I Am” which was released in 2005. The song was written by Diane Warren. Kristin again recorded “Borrowed Angels” in a country style version and added it to another album, “Some Lessons Learned” which was released in 2011. She is an accomplished singer with a unique speaking voice. She trained in coloratura soprano and is able to reach “F6.” Kristin is also an actress and has won a Tony Award for her Broadway performance in “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.”
In “Borrowed Angels,” Kristin is lamenting the fact that good people seem to leave this earth early on. The singer was asking why someone who is good is taken away early in life. They will be a source of inspiration and happiness in other people’s lives for a short time, and then they are taken away and no more to be seen.
However, somebody wise said to her that they must be “borrowed angels” who are allowed to live on this earth for a short time because they have an important role to play. But then heaven needs them back again so they have to return where they came from. The singer must have realized that this must be true, and agreed that they must really be “borrowed angels” to be able to accept the fact.
