White, Elspeth Mary

In Loving Memory of

Elspeth Mary White (Dow)
September 9, 1940 – August 14, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elspeth Mary White, beloved wife of the late William (Bill) White, cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who passed away peacefully on 14 August 2025 in Brantford, at the age of 84.

Born on September 9, 1940, in Dundee, Scotland, Elspeth grew up in the village of Invergowrie, where she worked in the local chemist before marrying Bill in 1962. Their son, Euan, was born two years later. Bill emigrated to Canada soon after, with Elspeth raising Euan with family in Scotland until joining Bill in Collingwood in 1966. Their daughter, Fiona, was born shortly thereafter. After living in Sarnia and Brantford, the family finally settled in Paris, Ontario in 1970.

Elspeth worked in service roles at Brownies and The Crossing restaurants in Paris over the years. She was a dedicated supporter of the Paris Legion Branch 29, serving on the Ladies Auxiliary for many years, including as President. A keen and skilled dart player, she enjoyed success in the Legion’s dart league and competed in the Ontario Legion Women’s Championships. Elspeth was also a proud member of The Daughters of Scotland in Brantford, working to support local charities.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Euan and Fiona & Gary, and her grandchildren, Cecilia (David), Michael, and Andrew (Claudia). She will also be missed by her sister-in-law, Ruth Wood (Charles), and close friends, Margaret Brown and Elaine Last (Robert).

A celebration of Elspeth’s life will be held in the fall, with friends and family welcome to gather and share memories.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Brantford General Hospital, especially those in Emergency, Stroke Recovery, and Palliative Care.
