Friends, since we moved to St. George, Rene met many people and kept many friends like
Christine, Smiljka and family, Marri, Sandra, Gerry and many more.
Rene is remembered as a caring woman with a zest for life. Her notoriously warm smile and
contagious laugh will be missed by many. Alongside her husband, she proudly ran the Two
Roses Bed &; Breakfast in St. George, Ontario for more than 10 years. It was during this time
that she was able to share her beautiful home, as well as her passion for cooking, baking and
storytelling with guests from all over the world. She was the ultimate hostess, ensuring her
home was always welcoming to friends, family, and strangers.
Rene looked forward to the spring and summer months, where she loved to be outside. An avid
gardener, her beautiful gardens were continuously recognized community wide. She thoroughly
enjoyed traveling, interior design, music, watching tennis (specifically her favorite player,
Novak Djokovic) and hunting for unique treasures at local garage sales. Above all else, Rene
put her family first. She loved to bring her family together for occasions big and small, though
she especially excelled at making Christmas the most magical time of year for her loved ones.
She will forever remain in the hearts of all who loved her.
Celebrations of Rene’s life will take place at a later date, in both the United States and Canada.
Details to follow.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke
Foundation would be appreciated.
Jose, please take care of yourself. It is with great sadness we all lost our Rene . A wonderful lady with a loving husband and family. We are all thinking of you here at the pub. Hoping everyday brings you a little more peace, strength, and comfort. From all the staff at the St. George Arms we send our deepest sympathy.
It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Rene. I met Rene when I moved to St George five and a half years ago. She welcomed me to the village and became a great neighbour and friend. We enjoyed visiting and chatting on the porch when the weather was nice and she welcomed all visitors, young and old. Her infectious laugh was contagious. She is truly missed.

From the time my 2 brothers and myself were very young Rene was always welcoming us into her home. She was always sweet and loving and an amazing cook. I would always ask Amy and Lidija, does your mom have any leftovers in the fridge?” I got my first taste of cabbage rolls (raided the fridge) and to this day I have not eaten one that compares to the delicious taste of hers. I will forever remember the smile on her face when she put on her new red cowgirl outfit and posed for us kids, she was stunning! I have many fond memories that will forever be in my heart. An exceptionally kind, beautiful and gentle lady, a momma to many of us. She is missed dearly.
Love Robin and family.
In memory of Rene Gonzalez. Over a number of years, I have had the pleasure of visiting both Rene and Jose, primarily at Two Roses, and have been treated not as a guest but more like a member of the family. Rene always welcomed me with open arms.
Rene was a unique and interesting individual and took great pride in Two Roses and her culinary expertise. One never went hungry around her and she always made sure you were comfortable.
Many nights were spent in engaging conversation on a myriad of topics. Rene had a diverse understanding and interest in a wide range of topics. Opinionated yes, but always willing to listen to the other side of the story.
Rene will be sorrily missed and will leave a gap in the lives of any who knew her. She touched many lives, including mine and my family. May you always be remembered.
Bill McDougall and family.
My dear Serbian friend that I met when we moved to St. George. We had a lot of good times through the years. Going to her parties where I met a lot of family and friends and felt right at home with her and Jose’s hospitality. Had them over for our Patron Saint day and Orthodox Christmas which was really great fun also fitting in with our customs. I really miss our chats we had in Serbian over a cup of coffee. Vjecnaja pamjat. Memory eternal. Tomislav and Desanka Dangubic.❤️🙏🏻.
All our condolences to Jose and Rene’s family for the sad passing of Rene.
We were lucky to find Rene and Joses Bed and Breakfast just after they had opened 14 years ago.
We had an immediate connection with Rene and Jose and felt very at home immediately we set foot in her home. Rene had decorated her B & B beautifully with all sorts of nicknacks and cooked amazing breakfasts with real attention to details. Rene was always straight forward, full of integrity, kind and fun and could talk about many different subjects. We became great friends over the years with her and Jose. Even when Rene wasn’t feeling well, she would be positive and not make a fuss. We will miss her laughter, voice and wise words but were very happy to have had the chance to meet her and spend time with her and Jose over the years.
A thank you to Renee. My dear Renee, I want to thank you for your long friendship. We were introduced to each other by Geri, shortly after you and Jose moved to St. George. We have known each other for over 20 years, & sometimes it feels like yesterday.
The 6 of us: Fran, Geri, Mary (may she rest in peace), Marlene, me & you were quite a bunch. I remember our yearly trek to Ikea for shopping & lunches. Also, the many times we took turns hosting lunches at each of our homes. Such fun! Especially at your home, so beautifully decorated, superb food & we even had a waiter (Jose!) So many good times. I miss you terribly & will always remember you in my daily prayers. Till we meet again.

We are grateful to have known you, Rene. You always opened your heart and home to us and felt like family, not just a neighbour. Rene, we will miss your friendly wave from across the street and chatting with you on the front porch. May you rest in peace, dear friend.
I remember Rene from the time she moved into her house. I would walk & visit and always felt welcome.
We would enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and sit on her side porch looking at her garden and enjoying our visit together.
The lovely meals she prepared, and Jose glass of wine were always a special time for friends & family.
Rene was a sincere, caring lady we spent many good times together. God be with you Rene.
Geri, always will remember you.
Jose. My most sincere condolences to you and all your family.
I am sure that Rene and Fran have already met for coffee!! And I will bet that Fran took along a great big bouquet of peonies for Rene!
Rest in peace Rene, rest in peace
Rene was a wonderful lady who I have known for many years. My thoughts and prayers go out to her whole family during this very difficult time
I know there are no words that can ease your pain, Jose. Just know that I’ll always be here for you no matter what. When someone you care about has lost someone they love and care about, it’s important to reach out and show your love. “We’re hard-wired as human beings to connect with others, especially when we’re grieving. When Jose called me to inform me about Rene passing, I could not believe it, I know Rene and Jose for many years, last time they were here for dinner I was told by Rene that La Cantinella is her preferred restaurant. They have been here many times celebrating Family Christmas, Mothers Day, and many other times. I recall how much times you two spent together. You were virtually inseparable. May all your wonderful memories comfort you during this heartbreaking time. God bless Rene and rest in peace.
Mama was always a joyful, sassy lady beaming with so much warmth whose smile we’ll miss dearly here at Hi Sushi. Even nearing the end of her journey with us, she was radiating with positive and bright energy. Everyone loved being around her. She always had humour in her and despite all the things she’s battling, she was always smiling through it all. Everyone in Hi Sushi is grieving for the loss of our sweet Mama together with everyone who knew her and loved her. We hope your new journey is a peaceful one full of your warm smile and laughter. Until we meet again Mama.

The picture
Rene came to Canada not speaking English but learned the language by watching game shows. Rene was a hard-working person. She operated a very successful bed and breakfast. After many years of running Covid was the first stop the business suffered and then her health started to fail. Rene was a generous hostess and always made us welcome. Rene hard working, fantastic friend, generous and wonderful baker. Missing you, Rene. I think of you every day. Rest in peace my dear friend.
Rest in Peace Rene. Thinking of you José. There were lots of great memories and we shared lots of laughs (sometimes over those great Mojitos, fabulous cooking/baking and sometimes, just over an expresso). Your presence in your beautiful gardens and seeing you in the outdoors will be missed.
My condolences to Tio Pepe and family. Tia Rene will greatly be missed. Will always remember her kindness and warmth. Rest in peace Tia Rene. She’s now an angel watching over you Tio Pepe.
Love you Annette and Ashley
Dearest Sister, you’re no longer amongst us, but in each of our hearts here in Cresskill, New Jersey. Your smile and faith in God will always be surrounding each of us. How can we forget the aroma of your cooking and baking. It will be an inspiration for the entre family. Now “Mima” and “you” are holding Hanks and will watch over each of us. Your memory will remain alive in our hearts until we meet again.
Our deepest condolences to Tio Pepe and his loving family on the passing and loss of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as our dear Tia Rene. Rene was a woman of many talents, especially her delicious dishes made with so much love. When we spoke on the phone, she was always positive and you could feel her smile. We were blessed to have her in our lives and will miss her immensely. Rene, you are now another angel in heaven. You will forever be in our hearts.
