Thompson, Terry Lee
Terry Lee Thompson
March 21, 1951 ~ July 29, 2024
Terry survived a stroke on July 18th, 2024, and passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 29th, 2024, at the age of 73.
Loving husband of Therese (nee Reilly) for 33 years. Much loved dad of Carri (Jerry) Charbonneau, Holly (Rob) Vickovich and Keenan Thompson.
Proud poppa Terry of Lucius and Cade Charbonneau. Cherished son of Marlene (92 years young!) and the late William “Bill” Thompson. Dear brother of Bonnie Worsley and Tracy Thompson.
Terry was a welder for his working years, but in retirement became a school bus driver, which he absolutely loved. He often said if he could have, he would have done that from the start.
He had the gift of gab and his mostly inappropriate sense of humour was infectious. He loved music, playing the guitar in his youth and attending concerts with Therese. Many dance parties were had on weekends spent at the cottage! He was also passionate about all things automotive; early on it was Nascar, but more recently NHRA. He had an uncanny ability to identify the make, model and year of a car just by looking at the headlights. He also painted and restored many cars in his lifetime, his 4th child was his 72’ Chevy Nova. We are confident that he arrived in the drivers seat of the Fast 72, with the engine just rumbling. He lived life on his terms and passed the same way. He was able to return home for his last several days and spend one last afternoon on his front porch, which he loved so much.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Terry at a Memorial Reception Open House at 1229 Rose Street, Cambridge on Sunday, August 11th, 2024 from 1-4 pm. We encourage those planning to attend to bring along a written memory of him, as we will be putting together a tribute album.
Donations in memory of Terry can be made to the Waterloo Region Down Syndrome Society (WRDSS), Cambridge Food Bank or to a Charity of your Choice.
We know you’re up there enjoying all of your favourite things, Giv’er!
A neighbour told me today my old friend Terry Thompson died. I’m quite saddened by this. Terry and I grew up together on Hewat Street in Preston and were friends for quite a few years. Although I haven’t seen Terry for many years I have fond memories of time spent with him. Hanging out in the early years. Playing guitars together in our young teenage years is another great memory. Talking about cars well before we were old enough to drive is also memorable. He had a lot of knowledge of the various makes and models and what powered them even back then. Once we were old enough to drive he was still my go to guy if I had car questions. I guess life took us in different directions after high school and we seldom crossed paths. His passing has really got me thinking about Terry and I during our younger days on Hewat Street. They really were good old days. My condolences to his family. May he Rest in Peace.

Had not seen Terry in many years – worked with him at Allen Bradley in Galt. We used to have so many laughs there. Terry was a nice guy and hate to see that he is gone now. This attached photo was taken at Jellybean Park in Wasaga Beach in the early 1970’s. Terry has the hat on. Lost touch with Terry after he left Allen Bradley.
