A poem our neighbour Veronica wrote in memory of Dad. The poem was originally written in Romanian and was just translated into English.
My Neighbour
we come across in the elevator
I see a joyful elegant salesman
in a man’s suit store
the pet lover has two
shaggy Charlie is sesible
and willingly accept the other dogs
when their masters leave them
in the neighbours care
illess won’t stop his wife
to glide the newspaper and leaflets
under my door
on Thursdays
John drinks coffee
cracks jokes and laughs
with all other neighbours
our elegant John, our courteous John, our friend John
recently the suits went into hiding
a shadow appeared instead
in the elevator
yesterday
with the speed of light
life’s been severed for
our elegant John, our courteous John, our friend John
when the death scythes around
the greatest reverence
can be made
only by silence

Caroline and Jason:
Please accept my deepest condolences. The Shrubsalls and the Halwards have been connected for many years. When the families would get together it was Johnny and myself that would spend time together. I can remember playing with the train set and when we were older going to the go-cart track. He will be greatly missed and we will all have many fond memories.
Dear Caroline and Jason, no words can ease what we all feel at John’s passing. We know he is out of pain and in a better place, that in itself is a blessing. The celebration of his life will be a fitting tribute to a man that enjoyed life as much as he did. Stay strong, my thoughts are with you.
Caroline and Jason,
Our sympathies are with you and your family at this difficult time. I hope that you find peace in knowing that John is not suffering any longer. The staff of Glenleven has many fond memories of “Shruby”.
Dear Caroline, Jason and family members –
It is with great sadness that I pass on to you my sincere condolences on John’s passing. In his best days he was such an outgoing and friendly person. My thoughts are with you and trust that your many happy memories will help to sustain you through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Brenda Nutter
