Phil de Freitas
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Philbrie (Phil) de Freitas on February 21st, 2021. He died peacefully at home with his loved ones beside him at the age of 74 after a lengthy battle with cancer. An infinitely loving Husband, Dad, Grandfather; the patriarch and pillar of our family.
Phil was the epitome and embodiment of the classic Gentleman. With Dad chance day to day meetings would often turn into an opportunity to engage in deep conversation on music, cricket, politics, religion, Shakespeare, and life; no topic was off limit. His penchant for meeting and engaging people wherever he went left a life well lived and loved. Phil will be missed deeply by his brothers, sisters, extended family, and many of those he met along his life’s journey.
Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Georgeana; children; Andrew (Dana), Kevin (Vicky), Kim (Kevin), Amanda (Richard) and 11 grandchildren Jasmine, Isaiah, Lauryn, Michael, Brayden, Sarah, Brianna, Ava, Shiloh, Tristan and Liam. `
Above all, family mattered most to our Dad. He will remain forever in our hearts.
We would like to thank the many individuals who provided care and support over the past few years.
Phil will be laid to rest at Brampton Funeral Home and Cemetery on Friday, February 26th, 2021. A celebration honouring the life of Phil de Freitas will be held when Covid restrictions are lifted.
PHIL WITH A GREAT BIG HEART! WILL FOREVER BE IN OURS HEARTS & IN OUR THOUGHTS !
The Late Phil and his Fabulous wife, Georgeana have been our friends since Feb 2013 . They have always dedicated themselves to their family & friends . will be sorely missed, and forever remembered by the many who knew and loved him.
Phil was an extraordinary man. Everywhere he went, he would light up any room with his smile. His sense of humor and kindness made all in his presence know that there have being a profoundly good men in our midst. Phil was a gregarious man and a gracious host to all. He was fun to be around and made whoever he was speaking with feel like they were the only person in the room. He was a generous man, in all senses of the word.
Inspired by the powerful words of John F. Kennedy, Phil perpetuated his own life’s motto: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” He would always offer his loving support and caring heart to everyone, Phil’s compassion and dedication to his family will forever stay in the hearts of the lives he has touched and the significant difference he has made to others including ours.
Phil was a high-spirited man, who had formed unforgettable memories with so many who hold him dear to their hearts. We will always remember him and the impact he had made, and we will be continued to celebrate the life he lived. Phil was a true treasure and legacy of an icon. Truth is, there are many living legends among us, but none quite like him. Still Just Cannot Believe He’s Gone ,will be profoundly missed, and forever remembered by the many who knew and loved him RIP Phil!!
Much Love,
David & Sandy Jackson
There are no words to express the sadness I feel in my heart at the passing of Uncle Phil. Uncle Phil was a true gentleman and an intellect who could carry on a conversation on anything from grass cutting to rocket science. I have so many fond memories of parties, family gatherings and great conversations with him. I know I’ll tell the stories of those great times. Uncle Phil is gone but he’ll never be forgotten. My deepest condolences Aunt GiGi and family.
The grandchildren (Sandra and Kenneth) & great-grandchildren of the late Winnifred James (Aunt Winnie) extends our deepest condolences to the family of our cousin Phil de Freitas. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

With Uncle Phil’s passing the world is a lot poorer and Heaven is a lot richer. Business Man, Antiguan Man, Canadian but most of all Family Man. He was Always somebody to look up to and Always someone you could count on. Uncle Phil will be missed by one and all. I’ll always strive to be as good an Uncle to my nephews and nieces as Uncle Phil was to me.
The sweet smell of sea air
Salty yet fruity , bitter yet sweet
It tickles your nose hair
So that at times you sneeze
The fragrance of flowers
With odours so sublime
That in Eden you think you must be
For on earth nothing is so fine
The earth now musky and potent
Wet,black,full and nourished
For eons with moisture from the Atlantic
It’s own special and distinct flavour bring
All these distinct,yet togetherness
Cumulate,adhere,attract each other
To form a potent and distinct flavour
Which Phill now enjoys in his Island Home,Antigua .
Blessings upon the family
