Reflection My wife, Merle passed away on Sunday April 26 in Mississauga, Ont. She was a very kind, gentle lady who lived a life of integrity, honesty, and love .She is remembered with great sadness by her husband, Kelvin and her beloved son, Hayden, her many nieces, nephews and friends. No better wife or mother could be found. She was a strong, active woman with a beautiful smile. Her spirited personality that once was, is no more to be experienced. Countless memories of our married life and that shared with family and friends in happier times remain indelibly etched in our collective minds. She is gone now to her heavenly home with her maker. Thank you LORD, she will no longer have to endure the perils of this earthly life. May her soul rest in peace. We both love you dearly. A private cremation service took place on Friday May 1, 2020 at St. John’s Dixie Cemetery and Crematorium in Mississauga. Thanks to the doctors ,nurses at the LHIN and S.R.T. MedStaff for their compassionate care during her illness. A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place in Trinidad & Tobago at a later date.

I will always remember when back in the 70’s when my family moved to Port Colborne Ontario where my dad Harry got a teaching position. At that time another teacher introduced my parents Harry and Ruby to Merle, Kevin and Hayden. From that day forward my parents and Kelvin and Merle became the best of friends.

From the first time I met Auntie Merle I could see the kindness, thoughtfulness of her heart and soul.

I remember one time when I wanted to get my hair done in a Afro so my mom took me to Buffalo because they had no black hair stylist in the area. Well it was a disaster so we ended going to see auntie Merle. Auntie Merle got an Afro blowout kit and in no time fixed my hair.

One of the last times I spoke to Merle she reminded me when they decided to take a trip to Europe and see England, Spain etc. Well Merle said she called my mom and asked if she and Harry want to come. Before she could finish my mom said when are we leaving.

I also remember the many trips to Toronto to see Caribean Carnival down University Street with Merle, Kelvin and Hayden.

My first time to Trinidad as an adult my husband Larry, Mom and Dad went to see Merle and Kelvin for Carnival in the early 2000’s. Hayden met us there! We had a great time with them.

We love you Merle and will miss you always, but you are now in the hands of god with my Mom, Dad, brother and sister…

    Karen, Larry, Tamara and family…

Beloved Hayden, although no words can really help to ease the loss of your lovely mother Merle,, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.

I admired Merle for her strength of character, her lovely smile and warmth embrace. I will continue to remember her in my heart, the things
she said, the good food and rhum cake she prepared for us.

I am praying for you and your father Kelvin to get through this time with the peace that comes from the knowledge that God loves you and that He will take care of you as he is loving on your mother now that she is free of the things of this world and home with her father God.

Dear Kelvin and Hayden, be still, be strong and be extremely bless for all you did for your beloved MERLE in Jesus Name Amen!

Mr. Jarvis, Hayden and other family members, today our hearts are filled with gratitude to God. He granted us a loan of one of His precious ANGELS in the form of Mrs. Merle Jarvis. She was a soft spoken, pleasant neighbour who was always equipped with an encouraging word and a pleasant smile. Her home was adorned with beautifully hand crafted items which she personally made. Rest assured that we are here for you and that we are just a walk across the road or a phone call away. May God’s peace provide you all with the strength to faithfully continue pressing on as you look forward to reuniting with Mrs. Jarvis. Stay

    Hayden,
We are saddened by the passing of Merle. Our heart felt condolences go out to you and the Jarvis family. Merle was a good, kind, lovely lady with many beautiful qualities. It was a pleasure to be in her presence. Merle was genuine and put people at ease with her love and kindness. Merle was also a great mom. She would tell you exactly what our mom would tell us. We often wondered if they had exchanged numbers. Merle was a special person. Merle was a blessing to the world. Her spirit will remain with us. May Merle be in the light of God’s presence forever and ever.

I first met Aunty Merle in 1989 when I was just 7 years of age and to this day I still remember her warm embrace swallowing my whole body in. I immediately felt her love and was reminded of it each morning she would be waiting at the breakfast table with multiple options for breakfast and a big smile!

I also remember how keen she was to tidy my hair. I was visiting with my Dad who I am sure wasn’t able to do more than tie it back. I remember her sitting me down and putting Seasame Street on for me to watch whilst she combed and braided out my hair. I have vivid memories of her asking me to stand for pictures afterwards as she was so pleased with how it had turned out despite the fact that I ended up crying most of the way through it.

I was brought back to this memory in August 2012 when I met Aunty Merle in California (at Aunty Sherine’s house) and was able to introduce her to my daughter Giselle who was 4 at the time. I remember her sight not being too great then but her face still lit up from ear to ear when she saw us and mines too lit up when I saw her swallow all of Giselle in her embrace in the same way she had me back in 1989.

My most recent memory that I will forever cherish with Aunty was when she was visiting for Fallon’s wedding and she and I sat together discussing all of her childhood memories. I remember us laughing so much as she recalled some of the stories. She gave me more insight into the kind of woman my grandmother was and how close they were growing up – I could have listened for hours and hours. I knew that moment was special at the time and I felt privileged to be able to share that with Aunty Merle,

I hope that Aunty is resting in eternal peace and I am sure she is somewhere in heaven having a good dance with her family.

My thoughts and prayers are with Uncle Kelvin and Uncle Hayden at this sad time xxx

Sending our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to uncle Kelvin and Hayden in particular at this terribly sad time.

Auntie Merle was an extremely loving, kind and admirable member of our family. I will forever treasure childhood memories I have spending time with her in Trinidad and hold close to my heart how blessed we were to spend time with her in London more recently.

Wishing I had a chance to remind her how much she meant to me, how lover she was and how in some way, she brought me closer in my mind to my grandmother, who I sadly never got to meet but whom Auntie Merle often spoke fondly of.

Sending lots of love along with a huge hug and our condolences to Uncle Kelvin and cousin Hayden.

Ps. Thank you SO much for setting up this Zoom link for the funeral service – it means so much that we will be able to say our own goodbyes despite the mileage across the pond. xx
