In Loving Memory of Hugh Guthrie

Hugh Valeriu Walter Inouye Guthrie

January 28th, 1977 – November 13th, 2025

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Hugh Valeriu Walter Inouye Guthrie, of Toronto Ontario, announce his sudden passing on November 13th , 2025.

Our beloved Hughie was born on January 28th, 1977, in Thunder Bay, Ontario and he spent most of his adult years in Toronto, Ontario.

Left heartbroken to mourn his passing are his family: Sisters: Alana (James), Lisa (Ty); his brother: Kristopher (Cecilie), and cousin: Richard (Nicole). Loved and fun Uncle to Taylor Halfpenny (Dan), Eddi Breinholm & Eivin Winter.

Hugh is predeceased by his uncle Mario Dragota, aunt Lucy Scott and his brother Joseph Guthrie.

Hughie attended Fanshawe College and applied his exceptional intelligence (some say genius) into his professional work as a Senior

Technical System Analyst at the Royal Bank of Canada for more than 17 years.

Hugh found absolute joy and showered his cherished French Bulldog, Hugo, not only with an abundance of kisses, hugs, toys and walks – but shared delicious home cooked meals! The family extends a warm thank you to Paola for taking care of Hugo.

Hughie had an abundance of many unique and fun hobbies such as DJing, creating miniatures (gundams/War Hammer) and enjoying many types of films such as the 80’s horror flicks. He was a master Street Fighter 2 player and had curated an impressive record/vinyl collection over the years. He was such a unique, interesting and hilarious guy!

Hughie had many friends that were family to him and have supported him in so many different ways. The family extends a warm thank you and hugs to Suri, Lily, Cristina, Jon, Valeska and Rob. We are sorry if we missed anyone as he had so many friends. It is a great comfort to us to know how much he was cherished and loved- and will be missed-  by many, many people.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Hugh’s memory can be made to your local Center for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH).

Hugh spoke in a language not everyone immediately understood —
thoughtful, precise, and shaped by meaning rather than volume.

    Temba, his arms wide.
    Shaka, when the walls fell.
    Darmok and Jalad, at Tanagra…

    Kiteo, his eyes closed.

Brother! You will be forever in my thoughts.

Working with Hugh for ten years was an absolute pleasure. He was a bit shy at first, but once he opened up, he was a treasure trove of awesome interests. Whether he was geeking out over music and movies or sharing his very unique musical creations (which were always a fun surprise!), he brought a lot to our team meetings to share
Hugh was often the first to jump in with comments in meetings—something I always appreciated. He wasn’t afraid to speak up, and that kind of confidence made a real difference. Plus, his work ethic was top-notch. He was all about perfection, and you could always count on him to deliver his best.

Hugh, we miss you already missed!

Thank you for being a great uncle.
You got me my first drawing tablet and always made me feel like even if i was a weird kid, that’d be okay because i could become a weird – but cool – adult. You always introduced me to some of the coolest interests that are a huge part of who i am today. Wish we could watch more horror movies on discord together.
    Miss ya uncle hugh

I was so sad to learn of Hugh’s passing. We worked together many years ago at a call center in London. I learned a lot from him. Also I am Rob’s Mom so we stayed in contact through Rob. We will both miss him. Know that your family are in my thoughts.
