Greensides, Richard
With heartfelt sadness the family of Richard Greensides announces his passing on December 17, 2025, at Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital at the age of 78. Richard was the beloved husband and best friend of Lois (née Findlay) for 45 wonderful years. He was a loving father to his 4 amazing children: Rick Jr. (Amber), Marshall (Candice), Daniel, and his daughter Jillian (Saby). Papa will be sadly missed by his 4 precious grandchildren: Brennan, Jonah, Bella, and Willow.
Rick was an avid motorcyclist who cherished many memorable trips with his sons and best friends, meeting countless people along the way and valuing every friendship he made. He proudly served as a firefighter for the City of St. Catharines, loving every moment of his career. Later, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by driving long-distance transport trucks, a job he enjoyed just as much. Truly a jack of all trades.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at both the Marotta Family Hospital and Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital for the exceptional and compassionate care of Rick.
As per Rick’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of his life to be announced at a later date. Anyone wishing to donate, please consider the Alzheimer’s Society of Niagara for the amazing support that they have given the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Tranquility Burial & Cremation Services (Niagara) Inc. Condolences can be shared at tranquilitycremation.com

My thoughts and prayers are with the Greensides Family at this time… Rick was a great firefighter and a good man… If you ever needed to be grounded, Greener was the man to do it… Simply put, he would not ask you to do anything that he would not do himself…RIP Rickie Boy…The prayers have been said…God Bless!
So sorry Lois to hear of Rick’s passing. I worked for many years on Platoon 3 with Rick aka Tuner. He had a wry sense of humor, told great stories and had a mischievous laugh which made work fun.
Most of all, he didn’t take himself seriously, was a great mentor and was compassionate to those less fortunate or suffering from mental health issues. For that, he left a lasting impact.
He always spoke fondly of you Lois and his kids which whom he loved dearly.
He certainly had a profound impact on my career and I will alway fondly remember him.
So sorry Lois to hear about the passing of Rick.
Rick was a such a great person on and off the job. Coffee after our shift at Tim Hortons was always met with a smile and a story from the previous shift .
Learned a lot from Rick and he was always a guy that could take a joke but also he could dish it out . Truly a professional firefighter
My deepest condolences
