In Loving Memory of Josh Toirkens

It is with the deepest of sorrow that the family of Josh Toirkens announce his sudden passing on
Tuesday November 25, 2025, in Brampton Civic Hospital at 58 years of age. Josh was a man who
cherished and valued his relationships with those closest to him. He is survived by his faithful wife of
40 years, Robbin Grant; and his daughter, Amber, to whom he was wholly devoted. Josh will be
profoundly missed by his sister, Lauraine (Maurice); and sisters-in-law, Wendy (Ron) and Kelly. Josh
will be lovingly remembered by his nephews Matthew (Rachel), Ryan (Lyanne), Tim (Erin), Tyler
(Sommer), and Troy; and he delighted in watching his family grow as he became a great-uncle to
Lillian and Greyson. Josh will be fondly thought of by his father-in-law (Robin), aunts, uncles, and
cousins, both in Canada and the Netherlands; as well as his many friends who had become life-long
members of his extended family. He has been reunited with his parents, Frank and Peggy Toirkens,
and more close friends and family members who predeceased him. Josh was fiercely loyal, hard-
working, and one-of-a-kind. From a very young age, he had a curiosity about how things worked. He
took things apart; he studied and fixed; he put it all back together. Ultimately, Josh became a gifted
mechanic who made his living repairing cars, trucks, lifts and cranes. He had a particular affinity for
GMCs and Chevys and curated a small collection of them in his backyard. Travelling north to snow
mobile in the winter or go ATVing in the summer were journeys that he looked forward to – this was
how he relaxed and spent time with friends and family. He kept everyone’s equipment in good
repair as only he could. It had been his dream to move north to a small piece of land with a big
garage. Regrettably, Josh did not get to see this dream fulfilled. We would like to commend the
paramedics who tended to Josh in the early morning hours of November 25; and to express our
heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Brampton Civic Hospital for their tremendous efforts. Finally, we
would like to acknowledge and thank the Christ Church community for all their support, assistance
and kindness during this difficult time. A funeral service will be held for Josh at Christ Church
Brampton on Saturday December 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. We invite you to consider wearing plaid to
the service as a special tribute to Josh because who doesn’t have a memory of him in one of his
signature plaid shirts or jackets? Christ Church is located at 4 Elizabeth Street North, Brampton, ON
L6X 1S2. The Church’s website (www.christchurchbrampton.ca) outlines parking options for those
planning to attend the service. In addition to locations listed on the website, there are several
municipal parking lots in the area within a short walking distance that offer free parking on
weekends. In lieu of flowers please consider donations in Josh’s memory to either Christ Church
Brampton OR The City of Brampton Animal Services (City of Brampton | Animal Services |
Donations). Each of these organizations have donation links on their websites.

As neighbors josh and I had our differences but at the end of it all we got along. Josh would go out of his way to do us favors. This was a big shock to here of his passing at such a young age. God Bless.
