WHITFIELD, Donald Thomas (1920-2018)
Don passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 11th, 2018 at his home in Lookout Ridge Retirement Residence while in his 98th year. Beloved husband of 65 years to Marie Louise nee Enticknap (predeceased). Loving father of Judy (Al), Jane (Mike), John (Pat) (Deanna), Jennifer (Paul). Proud Papa to many grandchildren and doting Papa Don to many great grandchildren. Don had a way to make all of them and anyone else he encountered all feel very special.
Don was a long-term employee of Bell Canada, retiring in 1978. He was a decorated WWII Lincoln & Welland Regiment veteran. During WWII, Don was awarded the Military Medal, the citation reading, “Through a long series of difficult operations Sergeant Whitfield has displayed gallantry and devotion to duty of the highest order. His bravery and complete disregard for personal safety have been a magnificent inspiration for all ranks in his battalion”.
Special thank you to Dr. Dooler and the Hospice Niagara Team along with the outstanding staff at Lookout Ridge Retirement Residence. A private family celebration of Don’s life is planned. Donations if desired, to Hospice Niagara or a charity of your choice.
Dear Whitfield family, I was privileged to meet your beautiful parents while working at Healthy Options . They were such a special couple. Winsome and I loved them very much. They truly left a beautiful imprint on my heart. May God rest your dear Dad’s soul.
Lots of love , prayers and blessings to the entire family ?
Thank you Debbie and Gary for your true words about our Dad and Mom. They were truly in love and it is comforting to think of them together again. Love Jennifer
Uncle Don met the girl of his dreams many years ago, and can now be with her. Their love was forever apparent. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for all. Our thoughts are with family.
Love to all, Deb and Gary
I was one of the kids that Jennifer had in her daycare They were always around us and would help Jennifer when needed. I remember one time he taught me. It doesn’t matter what foot you put your sock on as long as they are the right way. They were our daycare grandparents.RIP
Prays for your family judy and your dad is resting at peace right now…xxxooo
