Those who knew my mom know she was a superstar. Something I recall often is the way she captured the room’s attention wherever she went, and she loved that.

Like the time she met with her friends for coffee in a fancy hotel where the Peruvian president was hosting a press conference, and she actually told the photographers, “No photos please!”, as if the photographers were there just for her.

As her vision loss progressed, she reluctantly was forced to use a white cane to move around independently; she hated the idea until she realized that everywhere she went with the cane, everybody would always grant her access and open the way for her, like the royalty she knew she was.

Although my heart is shattered at the thought that she’s no longer physically present, I know her light is still shining among us, and as such I choose to celebrate her remarkable life.

As the only daughter among 5 brothers, she was always a rebel. From escaping on motorbike adventures at the age of 10, to her partying days throughout her 20s in miniskirts and heavy makeup; she was always ready to have a good time – And never afraid to let me know about it-.

She regretted not completing her education, since she always said she would have been a great lawyer due to her confidence and outspoken demeanour – and she constantly reminded me of the importance of higher education. Nevertheless, she worked her way up in a pharmaceutical company and helped the team secure their first union.

It is really important to emphasize her will to live life to the fullest, within her limitations, which led her to leave her country to uncertain destinations at a young age.

After her journeys, she was consumed by the wish to be a mother, which became the best job she ever did due to the exuberating amount of love & dedication she shared with me.

She was and will always be my best friend, and I know many others had the privilege to say the same as she spread joy through all who came to know her.
