After a long and hard fought battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts that Irene’s family announces her passing on Monday January 22, 2018 in St. Catharines, Ontario. Born in 1965 to Nadia and Walter Purawec, she will be deeply missed by her loving husband Michael, daughters Larissa and Sonya, Mother Nadia, brother Walter (Annie) and sister Daria (Michael), nieces Ulana and Andrea, and nephews Wasyl, Bohdan, Matej and Lubomyr. Visitation to be held on Thursday January 25 from 5-8 p.m. (prayers at 7 p.m.) at the St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre Chappel, 1280 Dundas St. W., Oakville. Funeral service is on Friday January 26, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 300 River Oaks Blvd. E., Oakville, Burial to follow at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery, Oakville. I hope I can face a serious illness as bravely as Irene did. I’ll miss her easy going calm demeanor. I talked to her on the phone earlier this month from Rick’s house and she seemed fine. She went through so much all those years battling her illness. Her suffering is now over and she is at rest. Her life was a success as she leaves behind her husband, two daughters, and many relatives and friends. Sweet dreams Irene. My condolences to her family.
