Fields of Gold – Sting

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in fields of gold

So she took her love for to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in fields of gold

See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold

I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We’ll walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold

Fields of Gold by the legendary singer and song-writer Sting has a very soothing tune that almost feels like you’re being brought to another reality, somewhere far from the present, a distant past that’s filled with warm memories of a person you love. The song achieves this by painting a visual element into the song, so that you will not just be listening to it, but also seeing it, as if watching a movie play before you.

The song takes you to a field of barley, a field of gold where a woman is gazing at her love, with only the west wind, the sun and the sky to accompany them. This sublime image where the lovers walked in the fields of gold creates a heart-melting picture of recollections of pure bliss, perhaps from a time long passed.

Blissful memories often bring people back, especially those who are no longer with us. The pangs of pain is especially more painful if that person we lost was a lover. All the long walks, all the kisses, being in each others’ arms, feeling each others’ hair, evokes a bittersweet chill that may bring a tear every once in a while. However, as long as you can slip into the those summer days where the image of your love can be made perfectly clear in your mind, a calming peace can always be attained, if not briefly.

Fields of Gold may not always be a song relating to death, in fact, death was not mentioned or even hinted at the song lyrics; it is that this song is a celebration of loving memories made by the person you love. It invites you to a world of escapism where you and your love exist in a vacuum of cool breezes and summer days. The song, however, is open to interpretation in so much that this person, whoever this is, may no longer be with us.

Although this may not be specifically be accurate, in the sense that cremation services are becoming more popular by the year and has become a widely accepted practice in many cultures as time goes by. This process is sky-rocketing into a go-to choice for many people because of the low-cost cremation services which is significantly lower than your average funeral. With cremation, you can never truly say that your loved one is no longer with you, you can have their ashes in your homes, in the office, or anywhere. You can even carry them with you wherever you go by placing some of the ashes in a pendant or some form or jewelry.  Overall, cremation is a cost-efficient way to have your loved ones be always with you at all times.
