Skoretz, Catherine Mary

Catherine Mary Skoretz

May 30, 1949 – March 22, 2025

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Catherine Mary Skoretz. Cathy
peacefully departed this world on March 22 nd , 2025, at her home in Brantford, with family
at her side. Cathy was aged 75 at the time of her passing.

Cathy is survived by her son Terry Skoretz, her daughter-in-law Julie Skoretz (nee
Hager), and grandsons Quinn, Conlan, and Landon Skoretz. Cathy was predeceased
by her late husband Peter Skoretz, who passed in 1998.

Cathy was born on May 30 th , 1949, in Johnstone, Scotland, as Catherine Mary
Hannigan. Cathy was born to James Hannigan and Mary Hannigan (nee Rocks).
Cathy was the middle of three children, with older brother Jim and younger brother Ray.
She grew up in Barrhead, Scotland, enjoying life and having fun with family and friends.
After her parent’s premature passing in the mid 1960s, Cathy decided to emigrate in
1968 to Canada. It was a difficult decision to leave behind her two brothers, her
enormous extended family, as well as her dear friend Alice Grieve (nee McLaughlin).
However, some family had emigrated before her to Canada, welcoming her and taking
her under their wing. The bonds she created with those aunts, uncles, and cousins who
helped her as she arrived in Canada, would be strong and last throughout her life.

Soon after emigrating, Cathy started her own family. Cathy met Peter Skoretz in
Brantford, Ontario. They married on November 28 th , 1970, in Brantford. Cathy gained
another family as she now had a loving mother and father-in-law, along with Peter’s six
siblings who welcomed her into the Skoretz clan. From this point on, Cathy felt
fortunate to have a large family on both sides of the Atlantic.

Throughout her years in Canada, she frequently returned home to Scotland to see
friends and family. Cathy developed many friendships in Canada that were dear to her.
There are too many friends to mentioned, but they were all very special to her. Cathy
was a woman that loved life, always up for a good laugh and a drink, with those that she
loved.

As per Cathy’s wishes, there will not be a public service to honour her memory. Please
think of any fond personal memories you have with Cathy, as that will make her smile.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Cathy had a way of making me laugh, even when laughter wasn’t particularly called for. Cathy certainly walked her own path, I loved that about herr.. Her humor, warmth, and big heart made her such a joy to be around. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Sending love and strength to Terry, Julie, the boys and her friends as we remember the amazing person she was. Yvonne xx

Cathy was and is a very dear friend. We had many laughs and vacationed a couple times to Cuba. One of our favorite things to do is play Bing Bang Bong and have a few wobbly pops. You are and always will be missed. Love you my friend.
