Cathriona White, Jim Carrey’s Ex, Dies at 30

30-year old Irish-born make up artist, Cathriona White passed away from an apparent suicide last September 28. Cahtriona was the on-and-off girlfriend of 53-year old comedian, Jim Carrey.

The funeral, recently concluded last October 10, saw the Hollywood actor as one of the pallbearers. Carrey was seen with his daughter, Jane, along with White’s family during the service. He was only one among the hundreds who paid their respects in Our Lady of Fatima church in Cappawhite Village in County Tipperary.

Upon her death, White’s family published a statement saying, “The family of Cathriona White sincerely regret the untimely passing of their beloved daughter and sister,” the statement read. “Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family. We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss. There will be no further statements on behalf of the family.”

Despite being released, Cathriona White’s death certificate still does not reveal her cause of death. However, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told Entertainment News that along with a note, there were pills located next to the hair and make up artist when her lifeless body was found in her Sherman Oaks, California home.

“Small Town Girl with Big Dreams who was Not Afraid to Follow Them”

Born in Cappahite, Tippepary, Ireland, Cathriona White always have always dreamt big. She completed her Leaving Certificate at the Convent of Mercy and got her first job as a beautician in Tipperary. In 2009, she decided to follow her dreams and move to the US, where she worked in the makeup department as a stylist in the 2012 short film, Firefly, and for the 2013 short film, Solitude and for the series, The Online Gamer in 2011and 2012. In Firefly, she was credited as female customer #2. Apart from her working in the make up and styling department, she finally made her acting debut in The Online Gamer.

Cathriona White is one of the three children born to Brigid and Pat White. Her father passed away last September 2012 after fighting a brain tumor for over 20 years. White’s mother remarried and moved to London, along with her two siblings.

White’s older brother, James White, 32, was awarded the Military Cross at Buckingham Palace for his courageous acts during his service with the British army in Afghanistan last November, 2011. Her older sister, Lisa White is happily married with children.

“All Too Soon, Too Early”

Hundreds gathered during White’s funeral service in her hometown. Parish priest Fr Tadgh Furlong told mourners: “We gather around Cathriona’s body in our parish church – all too soon, too early. In 1985 Cathriona was baptised with joy into this Christian community. We assemble now in a very different atmosphere to welcome her home. We gather in silent, sad, grief-stricken fáilte. At this time we welcome home one of our own”

White’s step sister, Sarah had only the kindest words to say: “When I started writing this I didn’t know where to begin. How do you summarise such an amazing life in just a few words? But the more I thought about it the more I came to realise that I just needed one word – love. Cathriona had such an amazing capacity to love and to be loved. From growing up in Cappawhite, through to moving to Clonmel and finally settling in LA, love remained a constant in her life from beginning to end.”

She added, “Cathriona was more of a Daddy’s girl that anyone else I’ve ever met and although losing them both in such a short time is unimaginably difficult for us we can take some comfort in the knowledge that Cathriona and Pat are together again.”

More Details Unfolding

White’s death came as shock to everyone. Her last tweet, posted September 24, read: “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest,”. Four days after, with worried friends getting in touch with the LA police, her body was found in her California residence.

Jim Carrey, who was said to have split up with her days before her apparent suicide, said upon discovery of her death: “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Since the pair met back in 2012 in a movie set, White and Carrey have been dating on and off.

New details emerge that Cathriona was still married to a man named Mark Burton. According to records filed in Clark County, Nevada, White and Burton married last Jan. 14, 2013.

A source spoke to Entertainment Tonight, saying White intended to start divorce arrangements come December. “As far as Jim was concerned, Cat was separated from her husband,” the source said. “He would never have been out publicly with her if she was still with her husband and still married.”

Tributes came pouring from all ends. As the funeral service concluded, the Truman Show star took it upon social media to post a photo of him and White captioned, “Love cannot be lost.”
