William Sequeira

June 25 1946-April 23 2021

On April 23rd 2021, William Anthony Sequeira passed away after a sudden, short illness at the age of 74.
Willie was a special individual who valued relationships, with family and friends, over worldly
possessions. Young and old found it easy to spend meaningful time with him- he had a way of seeing the
good in everything and everyone.
Willie was born on June 25th, 1946 in Pune, India and attended St. Vincent’s School and received a
Mechanical Engg. diploma from the College of Engineering in Solapur. The family home was always a
hub of activity and provided warmth and shelter to anyone in need- his unconscious introduction to
being of service. During his formative years, he excelled in field hockey and specialized in converting
penalty corners, giving his team victory on many occasions and earning him a spot on the Maharashtra
team. Through to the end, he carried his love of sports, in particular ice hockey (Go Leafs!) and tennis.
His career started with Mather Greaves (Hydraulic Pumps division- Pune) and onto GH Wood, after
arriving in Canada in 1974; he ended his working years with Costco, making lasting friendships along the
way.
Willie’s love of driving steered him towards the Rockies for his first Canadian adventure. Over the years,
he made many trips to Port Elgin, Owen Sound, fishing holes (ie.cottages) and to visit friends and family
around Ontario. Accompanied by his siblings, his last big drive was to view, with awe, the Grand Canyon.
With the support of family and friends, Willie overcame a short setback and honed his code of integrity
and honesty. His kindness, generosity and resourcefulness knew no bounds and he was willing to lend a
helping hand in any way he was able, whether it be a lift to the airport or working on wiring a light
fixture. Willie’s quest for information kept him apprised of all that was happening in the world and he
happily shared this with others.
His calm, pragmatic demeanour radiated a sense of tranquility. Although quiet in nature, he could be
quick with one-liners and laughed heartily and often. Throughout Willie’s life, he touched many people
and left a trail of laughter and happiness, in particular when it came to remembering birthdays. Many
welcomed him into their families- he was the thread that connected us all.
Predeceased by parents Hermenegildo and Luiza, sisters Sylvie (Sr. Elizabeth) and Serena, brother-in-law
John and many close friends. Dearly loved and missed by “big sister” Sybil, nieces Janice (Norman) and
Melissa (Alan), grandnephews Liam (Cara), Nathan and Daniel and grandniece Annick and many, many
of his family and friends.
