Tudhope, Elva Joyce (nee Swayze)

TUDHOPE, Elva Joyce (nee Swayze) – Passed away in her sleep, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Brantford General Hospital, in her 93rd year. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill, infant daughter Carol, Mother May, Father, Bruce, and sister Margaret Ruth. Elva is survived by her 6 children, Kathy, Judy Semiwolos (Gary), Billy (Hien), Jim (Nancy), Wendy Witmer (Bruce), Penny Cassady (Kirk), 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Elva graduated from the Brantford Business College as a bookkeeper and worked as such for many years. She served in WW2 in the W.A.C. out of Toronto and New Brunswick. She was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dunsdon Branch 461, serving as President and Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary. In her earlier years, Elva loved to knit and sew for her family, play cards, garden and bowl. She took great pleasure in listening to her favourite music. Mom was a great cook for her family, and will long be remembered for her special holiday feasts. Above all, Elva was most proud of her large family, which included her dearly loved dogs. We will remember her as a feisty, determined, but loving Mother, who will be missed very much. Thanks to Veteran’s Affairs Canada for all of their support which enabled Mom to live in her own home until last year. That meant so much to Mom. Special thanks to all of those “girls” who hung in there with Mom, caring for her at home, especially Cindy and Melissa; as well as to those at Queen’s View and Park Lane Retirement Homes in recent months. Cremation has already taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life for Elva, to be announced at a later date. In memory of Elva, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Association, or the brantcountyspca.com.
