Penelope Ann “Penny” Cosgrove (née Helston) passed away Sunday, September 6, 2026, surrounded by her family at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, after suffering a stroke a few days earlier.
Dear wife of James “Jim” Cosgrove for just shy of 50 years (October 2, 1976). Mom of Paul (Sue), Katherine (Joe), and Tim (Lisa). Stepmom to Randy Cosgrove (Susan), and their family.
Grandma to Michael (Angelina), Mark (Gina), Danielle (Joel), Mikaela, and Aimee. Great-grandma to Matthew, Valentina, and Alexander. Cherished sister of Peter Helston and his wife Carol. Aunt of Tom, Joe, Kerry, Christine, and Lindsey. Predeceased by her Parents Tommy and Margo Helston, as well as her brother Robbie and his wife Judy.
Penny was a great cook….her lasagna was amazing, among many other feasts she created, and she loved to bake, especially wonderful pies, which she generously made for many folks!
She enjoyed decorating her home and changing it up with new finds she sourced through antique shops and other sources…she was always on the hunt for a new treasure!
She worked for Canadian Airlines, and then Air Canada for many years.
Penny loved to travel with Jim and spent time in Hawaii, Florida, Myrtle Beach, and Italy.
She and Jim enjoyed many road trips. They toured the Niagara area many times especially during Covid, as a way to get out and see the lovely area. Penny enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved the holiday celebrations. She will be missed by her family and friends who she loved to keep in touch with, as well as her pup, Scooter.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Greater Niagara General Hospital for the wonderful care she received.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Tranquility Burial & Cremation Services (Niagara) Inc. A private family service will take place at a later date. A Celebration of Penny’s life will be held in the coming weeks. Those who wish to donate in Penny’s memory, donations can be made to Mission Thrift Store-St. Catharines, 184 Scott Street, St. Catharines, ON, L2N 5T2.
