Patricia Anne Matthews (Polupski)
January 12, 1949 – August 26, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Anne Matthews (Polupski) on August 26, 2026, at the age of 77.
Patricia was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on January 12, 1949. She grew up with her three younger brothers, whom she was very proud of and loved dearly. She cherished watching them grow from young boys into the men they became. Pat had a natural love for teaching and spent time teaching Sunday school when she was younger, sharing her kindness, wisdom, and faith with others.
Pat married the love of her life, Leslie Matthews, and together they built a life centered around family, faith, and community. Her greatest passions were her family, her church, and helping others. She gave generously of herself and always seemed to put the needs of others before her own.
Pat was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and a 25-year member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League Council, where she held many executive roles and dedicated countless hours to serving her church and community. She was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul and participated in a women’s sisterhood group at St. Pius X Church, where she formed many cherished friendships. Pat was always willing to volunteer and help wherever she could, generously giving her time to others and making a difference in the lives of those around her.
Pat was a hardworking and dedicated woman who also ran her own accounting business, taking great pride in her work and the relationships she built with those she served. She retired from Beck’s Printing after many years and enjoyed many years teaching part-time at Mohawk College, where she shared her knowledge and experience with others.
Family was at the heart of Pat’s life. She treasured spending time with her loved ones and especially enjoyed cruise holidays with her family, creating wonderful memories that will be cherished for years to come.
And, of course, there was Misha, her beloved dog. Pat’s love for Misha was overwhelming and unmistakable. Misha was a very special part of her life and brought her tremendous joy and companionship.
Patricia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leslie Matthews; her parents, Peter and Irene Polupski; Jana Dodd-Polupski, wife of her brother Larry; and Linda Walters, wife of her brother-in-law John and brother-in-law Peter Matthews.
Patricia will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Denise (Terry) Syms and Christopher Matthews; her grandchildren, Matthew Syms, Victoria Syms (Jason Doiron), Felicity Matthews, Trinity Matthews, and Maranda Syms; and her great-grandson, Logan.
She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Kenneth Polupski, Larry Polupski, and Lorne Polupski; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob (Wendy) Matthews, Penny (Jonathon) Tucker, and John Walters; and their families.
Pat was a bright light to so many around her. Her loving spirit, generous heart, unwavering faith, and devotion to her family and community touched the lives of so many people. Her kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
