In Loving Memory of Nadine Elizabeth Christensen
If things seem too serious, maybe a little less frustrating but also a lot less fun, it could be because my sister has died. The energy, charm, and style that was Nadine Elizabeth Christensen left on 18 June 2026, just 12 days before she could turn 51. Because Nadine died by herself, the world found out slowly that she was no longer here. Now we all know.
There will be no more calls out of the blue. One less holiday card to send (only to have them returned because you’d moved again and didn’t tell anyone soon enough). No one to spoil the dogs and cats (who have all gone to safe spaces). No more hope of a new Planet Diner with the best vegan doughnuts going. All the good recipes have gone with her, the girl who once couldn’t boil water without burning it.
You made it through a pandemic with that diner and a home of your own. You did it. We got to see you in person in 2022, ate the good food you cooked, made sure you saw how tall your nephew had grown, walked around town showing off those doughnuts. Then a longer visit in 2023 when we gave you old photos, talked in your lovely home until the late hours, met you for breakfast the next day.
Such a lovely visit, to see and know that we’d all made it out from what we went through as kids. We did it, the three of us; climbed out of the pit, walked away from the edge. Then the ground shifted for you – an illness, a heart attack, a hospital visit. A bad reaction to medication, another hospital visit. A flood, no insurance, remortgage, repair, retry. Locks changed anyway. The edge started to give. My phone says our last call was in March 2025. I heard your fighting spirit. Then no more calls. No emails. No texts. No replies to anything sent your way. It’s just another move, she’ll get in touch. Someone got in touch for you.
Nadine leaves behind her older sister, Nancy (Christensen) Serediak, brother-in-law Mark Serediak, and tall nephew Callum Serediak; brother Martin (Christensen) Wolfe, sister-in-law Alice Leung, and niece Oneia Wolfe; her very important stepbrothers Mark and Russell Mueller, super important stepsister Leona (Mueller) Vachon, and extremely kind stepmother Dollie Christensen; plus numerous aunts and uncles that she was too little to remember when we were moved. She was sadly long predeceased by her dad, Allen Christensen (1946-1998).
A memorial gathering will be held from 1 – 4 PM on 8 August 2026 at The Parlour Inn, 101 Wellington St, Stratford ON. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nadine’s name to a local children’s charity, animal rescue, or mental health association of your choice. Stay fabulous and kind.
