Joy McDonald 1934 – 2026

Joy Chadwick McDonald passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026, at
Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario, surrounded by the love of her
family.
Joy was the cherished wife of Robert McDonald, with whom she shared a beautiful
and devoted marriage of 67 years. She was the deeply loved mother of Grant, Brad
(Elvia), and Darren (Kelly), and the proud grandmother to Selena, Emily, Michael,
Greg, and Colin. She was also a loving sister to Carole Panayi (Demos) and a dear
aunt to her nephews, Demetri and Nicholas.
Born in Liverpool, England, in 1934, Joy’s early years were shaped by meager
circumstances. Following a period spent in an orphanage, she was formally adopted
by her stepfather, Roy Carrick Wilson, welcoming the arrival of her siblings, Carole
and Allen, after the war. From a young age, Joy possessed a personal determination
to flourish, excelling remarkably in both sports and academics, and winning
numerous school awards in recognition of her talents.
At just 16 years old, Joy left home, living briefly in London before enlisting for
national service in the Royal Air Force (RAF). It was during her service stationed in
Germany that she met her husband to-be, Robert. The couple married in 1959 and
initially settled in Scotland before deciding to emigrate to Canada in 1962. They
began building their new life in Scarborough, Ontario and eventually moving to
Mississauga in 1970, where they raised their three boys in the close-knit community
of Malton.
Joy was a woman of strong work ethic and ambition. Over the years, she excelled in
various administrative roles in corporate offices, eventually ascending to the position
of Buyer Analyst with Xerox. She dedicated 25 years of her career to Xerox, where
she was highly respected, before enjoying a well-earned retirement in 1999.
Outside of work, Joy lived a full and vibrant life. She was an avid reader, walked
every day, and stayed physically active at her local gym well into her later years.
Deeply involved in her community, she generously volunteered her time with local
organizations, including the Scouts and the Ladies Auxiliary. Above all, she was a
passionate and loyal fan of her beloved Toronto Blue Jays, attending countless
games with family and friends over the decades.
More than anything else, Joy was a devoted wife and mother who always put her
family first. Having overcome a difficult start to life, she poured her heart into
nurturing, protecting, and growing her family in a manner that befitted her idea of
what a family should be. She will be remembered for her ever-present sense of
humour, her inspiring drive, and the unwavering belief she invested in those around
her into becoming their best possible selves.
A private memorial service has been arranged. The McDonald family wishes to
express their deepest gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of condolences and
sympathy they have received during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please

good care of while in their care
