John Deering
It is with heavy hearts—and a few good stories—that we announce the passing of John Deering, age 68, of Cambridge, Ontario, who passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026.
John was the beloved husband of the late Gale Deering, and a much-loved father to Michelle (Scott) and Marcy (Chris). He was the proud grandfather of Corey (Becky), Mackenzie, and Nolan, and great-grandfather to Ty and Wes. He will also be missed by his brother George Deering (Nikki), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
John was a talented and well-known auto body repairman, and if there was something with four wheels that needed fixing, painting, or bringing back to life, John was probably the guy you wanted working on it. His talent was good enough to earn a spot in Hot Rod magazine, where one of his paint jobs was featured. And if you want to see a little piece of John’s handiwork for yourself, take a peek at his brother George’s 1959 Ford Anglia—John’s work is still turning heads.
In his younger years, John was a social guy who loved being around friends and family. He spent plenty of time at racing events with his buddies and enjoyed camping trips with the family. There were cars, races, campfires, stories, laughs—and undoubtedly a few opinions about how everyone else should have done things.
In his 50s, John suffered a back injury that forced him to step away from the auto body work he loved so much. Although it took away the job that had been such a big part of his life, it never took away the memories, friendships, stories, and the mark he left behind through his work.
John will be remembered for his talent, his sense of humour, his love of cars, and of course, a few drinking stories.
Celebration of Life
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at the Preston Legion on Saturday, August 29th, from 1:00–4:00 p.m.
Come share some stories, raise a glass, have a few laughs, and remember John the way he would want to be remembered.
And if you have a classic car… bring it.
John would probably approve.
