Joan Edna Skeels (nee Barrett)

SKEELS, JOAN EDNA (NEE BARRETT) – December 16, 1924 – November 23, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Joan at 97 years of age. Born in Guelph, Joan was the daughter of James Bernard and Edna Alice Barrett and sister to the late Jim, Bruce, George, Gordon, Mary and Edna. She is survived by her younger brother Frank (Betty). Cherished wife and soulmate of the late Hugh Skeels (2022). Loving mother to Jim, Pat, Peter (Franca), Mary (Lester), Michael (Josie) and Joan. Grandmother to Jessica, Mark (Jessika), John (Elicia), Paul, Shane (Maria), Phillip (Michelle), Michael (Julia), Jennifer (Ricky), Samantha and Stephanie. Great-grandmother to Emjay, Alexander, Maxwell and Leora. Joan was a devoted mother and hard worker, raising six children while balancing part-time work. When her children were older, she worked full-time as an Administrative Assistant at the Ministry of Natural Resources for over 12 years. Joan loved bowling and curling in her early years. Joan and Hugh enjoyed dancing, hosting parties and family gatherings and especially loved to travel. Joan will forever be remembered as a very happy, caring, fun and loving person. Many thanks to the wonderful and compassionate personal support workers and nurses from Acclaim Health. Condolences may be shared at Tranquility Burial & Cremation Service (https://tranquilitycremation.com/joan-edna-skeels-nee-barrett/).

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2nd , 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Schooner Room at 2511 Lakeshore Rd W, Oakville Ontario. In memory of Joan, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
