James (Jim) Kenneth Schofield
James (Jim) Kenneth Schofield of Jackson’s Point Ontario died peacefully on March 17, 2026, at the regional health centre in Newmarket following many weeks of treatment. His death followed the passing of his lifelong, devoted wife, Colleen (nee Todd) in June, 2025. Jim was born April 16, 1938 in Edmonton, the 3rd son of John Frank Schofield and Helen Agnes who had met and married in Youngstown, AB. Jim is survived by brother Jack of Priddis Greens AB and sister Geraldine (Jerri) Schofield of Healdsburg, CA, and by his sons, Gregory Schofield of Stony Plain, AB and Michael of Jackson’s Point He was also tragically predeceased by his son Jeffery of Vancouver. Jim’s education began in Edmonton and was completed at the high school and college levels in Winnipeg where the family had moved in 1953.
The first of numerous career moves which were to characterize his business life was made in 1957-58. He accepted a job opportunity in Regina. It was there he met and married Colleen, resulting in a lifetime of love and happiness for both. Jim’s engaging personality and adventurous outlook brought about many moves to five provinces. The moves involved living in cities in every province from B.C. to Ontario. The final home in Jackson’s Point on the shore of Lake Simcoe with its summer-cottage like atmosphere was one they couldn’t leave, but with regrets about being so far from families in the western Canada. For years his favourite activity was reading the morning Toronto newspaper in the cozy front sunroom. Phone contacts would always include the wins and losses of the Blue Jays and the Leafs, usually with more than a touch of criticism.
Jim and family greatly enjoyed many day-trips throughout the scenic Lake Simcoe region during his retirement, the canal systems being of particular interest. Fortunately they often flew to Alberta where memorable reunions were celebrated.
Though Jim was hospitalized for many weeks he received wonderful and friendly care from the doctors, nurses and support staff at the medical centre in Newport. We thank you all. Also, on Jim’s behalf, the family is most grateful to local resident Rose Sheppard for the concern and time she devoted to Jim, and Colleen at home before they required hospital care. She was invaluable.
In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation in Jim’s honour and memory is suggested.
