Caledonia
With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Drew Lawler of Hamilton, Ontario on Friday, September 4, 2026 at The Meadows – Long Term Care Home in Ancaster.
Pre-deceased by his parents Joan and Jim Lawler of Smithville and partner Lorraine Hunter.
Drew will be lovingly remembered by daughter Leanne Macsai and son-in-law Stephen Macsai. Proud grandfather of Chelsea Fraser, Samantha Macsai, Lauren Macsai and Cori Macsai.
Beloved great grandfather of Kai , Ivy , and Mack.
Also left to mourn are his brother Patrick (Rick) Lawler of Winnipeg, sister-in-law Debbie, niece Kate Herring and nephew James.
He was pre-deceased by his life long hunting buddy John Linstead and will be greatly missed by his much beloved and faithful fishing friend Rick Brennan of Calgary.
A very special thank you goes to Drew’s dear friend Jeanette Copple of Hamilton for all the care and assistance she provided for him as his physical and cognitive abilities declined over these last years.
After graduating high school in Caledonia, Drew worked the next 35 years of his life as an industrial electrician at Stelco Hilton Works in Hamilton.
A life long outdoorsman, Drew cherised his free time and always had a new hunting or fishing trip planned. When they were teenagers, Drew and his best friend John (Big Jake) Linstead roamed the woods around Caledonia with their bows and arrows in the search for small game and later on for white-tails.
He spent a great deal of time fly fishing on the Sauble River and other areas of the Bruce Penninsula. Calling moose in the wild country of the Little Key River he sometimes got answers from directly behind him! Driving rain and choppy waters on Lac aux Sables could not deter him and fishing partner Rick Brennan from their search for lake trout.
Drew also loved to hunt upland birds with his beloved dog Beau. They worked as a team and when they were at home Beau would loudly complain if Drew remained speaking on the telephone for too long.
There will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Drew’s memory may be made to the organization of your choice.

Papa Drew, I will miss you for the rest of my life. Walking down the train tracks with you and Bo will be a day I will never forget. I still have that shotgun shell.
I also watched my first Harry Potter movie in front of your fire place on one of my sleepovers there. Thank you for that.
I would choose you as my papa in every lifetime .
