NANCY ANN HURST 1944-2022

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Nancy Hurst of Cambridge Ontario on December 21 , 2022 following a two year battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her three siblings ; Mary (Harvey) Frey , Elwood (Marjorie) Hurst and Ruth (David) Rice. She will be dearly missed by her eight nieces and nephews as well as 21 grand nieces and nephews with all of whom she had a very special bond.

Nancy was born July 16 , 1944 at Shirati Hospital on Lake Victoria , Tanganyika to her late parents Simeon and Edna Hurst who were missionaries to East Africa .Nancy followed in her mothers footsteps and trained as a Registered Nurse in Newport News , Virginia. Early in her career she worked overseas : at times in Hong Kong , Germany and San Francisco. Later she spent the balance of her career working in Toronto. So she will also be dearly missed by her friends and colleagues at Mt. Sinai Hospital and  the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital.

When Nancy was diagnosed, she bravely accepted chemo and radiation treatments but was well aware how this might play out. Her journey was difficult, but her positive attitude and acceptance without complaining have been an inspiration to those of us close to her. The family would like to thank Fairview Mennonite Home and Lizard House of Cambridge for their compassionate care of Nancy during her final days. Our gratitude is also extended to Tranquility Burial and Cremation Services of Cambridge for the final arrangements.

Nancy loved pets , especially dogs and was happy to dog sit for her family. Her own dog Rafiki was by her side for many years.

A celebration of life will be held on January 22,2023 at 2pm. Preston Mennonite Church, 791 Concession Road, Cambridge Ont. In lieu of flowers , Nancy has requested instead, donations be made to Eastern Mennonite Missions of Lancaster , Pennsylvania.
