In Loving Memory of Herman Cecil Stewart
November 18, 1930 – June 23, 2026
With deep love and heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived, we announce that Herman Cecil Stewart peacefully entered his rest in the Lord on June 23, 2026. Herman will be remembered as a hardworking man of faith whose resilience, determination, and adventurous spirit shaped the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
Herman lived a life marked by perseverance, courage, and determination. He possessed a warm spirit and a contagious laugh that could brighten any room. His love for people, his gift for storytelling, and his genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born on Tuesday, November 18, 1930, in Union Island, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Herman was the beloved son of the late Ernest and Alma Stewart. As a young man, his adventurous spirit led him from Union Island to Trinidad and Tobago, then to England, before ultimately settling in Ontario, Canada. Throughout each chapter of his life, he remained committed to working hard and creating opportunities for himself and his family.
A skilled carpenter by trade, Herman took great pride in his craftsmanship and found joy in building and creating with his hands. He was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for more than 55 years, earning the respect of colleagues through his dedication, integrity, and exceptional work ethic.
Herman never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from every walk of life, forming lifelong friendships through meaningful conversations, attentive listening, laughter, compassion, generosity, and sincere care for others. Those who knew him will fondly remember his trademark baseball cap, his outgoing personality, his adventurous spirit, and his determination to live life according to his own standards.
He found great joy in traveling throughout the Caribbean, specifally Union Island and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where the warmth of the islands, the sunshine, and the sea renewed his spirit. Along the way, he built lasting friendships with people from many cultures and backgrounds, relationships he treasured throughout his life.
A man of deep and abiding faith, Herman was a faithful member of Toronto West Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he found joy in worship, fellowship, and singing. He shared his love of music as a member of The Golden Lights, The Messiah Singers and Faithful Men, using his voice to praise God and encourage others through song.
Herman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Eulene Stewart; his parents, Ernest and Alma Stewart; his brother, St. Clair Stewart; and his sister, Eastlyn Darlington.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Lorna Duplan and Zillyn Stewart; three sons, Frankie Stewart, Timothy Stewart, and Andrew Stewart; one stepson, Dave Mayers; two daughters, Sharon Stewart-Spencer and Natasha Stewart; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, cherished friends, and all whose lives were touched by knowing him.
To his family, Herman will be remembered as a man of remarkable strength and resilience. He faced adversity head-on and believed that a person’s word was their bond. He valued hard work, personal responsibility, and perseverance, and those principles guided much of his life.
Like all of us, Herman’s life was marked by both strengths and shortcomings. He was not a perfect man, but he was a man who worked hard, remained steadfast in his faith, and continued moving forward through life’s challenges. His story reminds us that every life is complex, and every person leaves behind lessons, memories, and opportunities for grace.
His legacy is found not only in the homes he helped build with his hands, but also in the values of resilience, determination, faith, and integrity that he demonstrated throughout his life. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him, each carrying forward the parts of his life that touched them most.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Herman’s life on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at St. John’s Dixie Cemetery and Crematorium (Magnolia Room).
A final viewing will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:59 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Mississauga Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2250 Credit Valley Road, Mississauga, Ontario L5M 4L9.

God has been so faithful that when the sunlight ( my mom)in my life set. He guided me to enjoy the moonlight ( my dad) amidst the darkness of not having my mom anymore! Moonlight has always been a significant part of any travelers journey. However, often you truly don’t appreciate how bright the moonlight actually was. Not until it’s gone, or you slow down to appreciate its beauty and its value in the midst of the journey’s darkness! I truly have come to enjoy the beauty of the moonlight! My dad! Rest in Jesus daddy, til we meet again!
