Gornicki, Irene Lydia Oxana

IRENE LYDIA OXANA GORNICKI

1956 – 2022

Irene Lydia Oxana Gornicki died on November 4, 2022 at the Norfolk General Hospital, following a
short sudden illness. She was born in Toronto on April 28, 1956 and moved to Brantford as a young
girl. She attended Pauline Johnson Collegiate in Brantford as well as the University of Toronto and
McMaster University. As a student, she worked at the Brantford Public Library.

She was an avid reader and loved horticulture, swimming, opera, ballet, performing arts, garden tours,
book fairs and perfumes. Her favorite holiday was Halloween and she always loved visiting Niagara
Falls. On her rural Waterford property she planted hundreds of native trees, shrubs and perennials.

She enjoyed long conversations with everybody and I am sure she enriched their lives .
She was the only child of Stefan and Olga (Hawrylko) Gornicki. Olga passed away in 2009. Irene was
the beloved mother of Ambrose Emmett-Iwaniw and wife of 32 years of Keith Emmett. She spent all
her married life in Norfolk County.

She was very proud of her Ukrainian roots and a firm believer in animal rights.

She will be missed.
