GILES, John

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father, John Giles, at the age of 77, surrounded by family. John will be deeply missed by his children, Kelly (Steven Smith), Jeff (Jen), Amy (Kelly Chrisjohn), and granddaughters Lexis and Kailey.

John will also be cherished by his family in BC; sister Mary (Barry Cunningham), sister-in-law Cathy (Ross), and numerous nieces and nephews. John is now reunited with his late mother, Mildred Haviland, father, Lloyd Giles, brothers Ross & Jim, sister May, and son, Trevor.

John was born in Cayuga, Ontario. As a young man, he travelled the world with the Canadian Armed Forces, trained as a journeyman plumber, and later started his own plumbing company. In the later stages of his career, John worked as a plumber for the Grand Erie District School Board, where he built many great friendships and fond memories with students, teachers, and colleagues.

John will be missed in the community and remembered for his stories and humour. A longtime member of the Lions Club, John was always willing to lend a helping hand. In his later years, he enjoyed visiting neighbours on the front porch with his beloved dog, Patch.

The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care the staff at BGH provided during John’s last days. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the friends who visited, providing much-needed support and love during this difficult time.

In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada: www.diabetes.ca

As per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Dad, your life was a profound blessing, your memory a cherished treasure. Your absence is felt beyond words, and your presence is already deeply missed, beyond measure.
