George Howard Johnstone passed away peacefully in his 82nd year, surrounded by family at Marotta Family Hospital on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Beloved partner to Run Smith. Cherished father of David (Vicky), and stepfather to Liz (Kurt) and Evan. Devoted brother to Barry. Predeceased by his parents George Edward and Maxine.
George served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1962 to 1965 and participated in Canada’s operations during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an employee in various capacities at the St. Catharines General Hospital (Queenston Street site) for over 30 years.
A long-time enthusiast of Ford Mustangs, George loved watching Barrett-Jackson Auto Auctions on television. He was also an active member of the local Mustang Club.
Keeping with George’s wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Tranquility Burial & Cremation Services (Niagara) Inc. A private service with family will take place at a later date. Condolences may be shared at tranquilitycremation.com
