BURGHER, Phyllis

Phyllis L. Burgher (née Penney) 1928-2021

Passed away peacefully just after her 93rd birthday at the John Noble Long Term Care Home, on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.  Beloved mother of Jackie Nattrass (Carl), and Pauline Laidman, grandmother of Jennifer Laidman, Sam Laidman, Heather Laidman (Stein Anderson), Ethan Nattrass and Andrew Nattrass and great grandmother of Allaina and Mason.  Phyllis is also survived by her cherished youngest sister Norma Sturge and brother-in-law Ronald who live in Nova Scotia.  She was pre-deceased by her parents Daisy and Augustus Penney and her much loved brothers Gerald Penney, Kevin Penney (Laura) and sister Fanny Maude Sear (David).

Phyllis was born in Humbermouth (now Cornerbrook) Newfoundland and like all Newfies, loved a good laugh and a Sunday “boiled dinner.” Fiercely independent, Phyllis enjoyed her own home until only a few months ago and took great pride in managing her own affairs. Her spotless home was a source of both envy and amusement to her family.

She was a skilled bookkeeper who found intrigue and solace in numbers and was proud of her foray into business at the age of 53.  Some of her greatest joys were watching the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren as well as her cherished long-time friendship with Marjory Burden.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public service.

My deepest sympathies Jackie. I hope you are able to take some comfort in the cherished memories you have with your mom and with time these will bring a smile back to you. Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.

    Take care of each other.
