Burdett, Michael Harry

The family shares with great sadness the loss of Michael (Mick) on June 19th, 2021.  Passing peacefully at Brantford General Hospital after a long journey of multiple health issues that he fought and defeated time after time, until losing this final battle.  Beloved husband of 58 years to Helen (nee Clarke).  Much missed father to Catherine Wareham (Allan), Neill (Lisa), John (Tracy) and Martin (Angela).  Cherished GrandDad to Tyler (Jessica), Nick (Rachael), Vanessa, Katie, Jack & Ethan.  Mick was born in Leicester, England in 1941, spent his youth train spotting and getting generally into mischief as the only child of Eva and Harry.  He chased, and finally won the hand of his beloved ‘Ellen’ in May of 1963.  Mick was a Machine Tool Fitter  by trade, beginning as a youthful apprentice in his teens, working for decades for Jones and Shipman in England and emigrating to Canada with them in the summer of 1974, with four kids in tow and everything they owned arriving on a boat.  They landed directly in Brantford, Ontario and this became his forever home.  Mick loved Sunday afternoon fishing with the family and friends, cooking up a storm on the old hibachi.  He valued vacations on the water in North Carolina, Manitoulin Island and Rice Lake amongst others.  In retirement years he enjoyed thoroughly the friendly competition and banter of bowling with Helen and friends.  His quick wit and cheeky grin will be missed by all who knew him.  If you ever had the pleasure of sitting around the table playing a game of ‘chase the ace’ with his silly made up songs you will fully understand our saying that we truly are ‘sad to see him go’.  Our sincere appreciation is extended to the medical staff at BGH for their excellent care, and a special thanks to the kind and compassionate Nurse, Tracey, who was with him at the end.  The family will host a celebration of life at a later date
