Bowers, John Roderick “Rod”

Peacefully on September 13, 2023. Loving husband of the late Verna. Cherished father of Rod Bowers and his wife Shelley, Kelli and her husband Dave Webber and Connie and her husband Darryl Schneider.  Beloved grandfather of Kali (Ben), Kaiden (Tori), Joshua (Marissa), Reid (Jenna), Mikala (Dylan), Destiny (Zack) and the late Brittany. Also, grandfather to Bruce (Steph) and Dani. Great grandfather of River, Charlotte, Benson, Maisie, William, Koa, Hazel, Kadence, Hutch, Barrett, Hatti, Ruby, Quinten, Abbigale and Kruz. Brother in law of Lois Bowers.  Predeceased by siblings Phyllis Sutherland and Wallace “Bud” Bowers. Rod will be greatly missed by his many family and friends. Rod came to Ontario when he was 16 to find his independence. He found work in Toronto at Dr. Ballards. He met his soon to be wife Verna a short time later. He then enlisted into the Canadian Armed Forces and was stationed in Wainwright Alberta becoming an expert marksman and centurion tank operator. After his service, he moved back into southern Ontario where he found employment with the CNR and then the Ford Motor Company in Oakville. There he learnt how to paint cars, which then became an “on the side” hobby for him. He then found work closer to home and was employed by Massey Ferguson. He then retired from there, but couldn’t stay still and found a new gig working with the Brant County Board of Education as a custodian in Boston Ontario, with his forever partner Verna. When Verna passed away, he moved back into Brantford to be closer to all his children, and grandchildren, and great grandchildren where he could be “granddad” and “great granddad”.  As per Rod’s request, cremation has taken place. A Family Celebration of Rod’s Life will take place at a later date. The fish and wildlife of the Lake Bernard Region will somehow be grateful that Rod will no longer be hunting and fishing in the Great North.

    Wallace Sutherland says:

Judy and I are very sad at hearing of Uncle Rod’s passing. I had always hoped to get back to Ontario to visit but this crazy world the last few years has kept us here in Nova Scotia. Please accept our sympathies.
