Bond, Darwyn Samuel Jacob

Unexpectedly, at 25 years of age, on June 4th, 2020 Darwyn left our world to hopefully find the peace and harmony that he so desperately wanted for himself. Suffering from mental illness and addiction, Darwyn was struggling recently, but was determined to overcome these demons, and was making great progress.

Unfortunately, he was not meant to reach his destination here with us on earth.

Darwyn continues to be loved by so many; he will always be remembered for his heart of gold, compassion for others, his infectious smile and laugh, and his awesome work ethic. Darwyn loved his job working as a stone mason, and in general loved working with his hands. He often took things apart to explore, even if they didn’t always get reassembled properly or completely. He was constantly taking apart and ‘modding’ electronics…likely driven by some master plan or goal we didn’t quite understand. As a teenager, skateboarding was a huge part of his life. He enjoyed fishing a lot, and the highlight for Darwyn had to be catching a large Mahi Mahi in the Pacific Ocean just off the coast of Nicaragua.

We are all heartbroken, and grieving, but will focus our energies on remembering all of the things that we loved about Darwyn.   Those of us whose lives were very close to Darwyn’s will fondly remember him; Aiesha (Mom,) Ken (Step-Dad,) Sheldon (Brother) and Orethea, Jen (Step-Sister) and Lyall, Nick (Step-Brother) and Alex, and of course Dash. Darwyn and Dash had a very special relationship, and would often disappear for some therapeutic loving.

Darwyn is also survived by his Father Wally, multiple sets of Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and many friends.

In lieu of holding visitation or a funeral at this time, the family will be holding a private cremation, and will schedule a Celebration of Life, likely in the fall of this year. Donations, in memory and honour of Darwyn, may be made to camh (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.)

Darwyn Bond was a special, sweet soul.
When Darwyn smiled or laughed – the whole world brightened. My most indelible memories of Darwyn were making him laugh or see him smile. The whole world was made of mirth when that happened. …When Darwyn broke out in a laugh that shook his whole body.
I remember our trip downtown one year at Christmas to get his first skate board at the coolest Toronto skateboard shop. So many decisions. So many choices. But finally the choice was made and it was assembled in the shop. From then on – Darwyn had it figured out and put his own boards together.
Another powerful memory – is of Darwyn and Tigger spending hours together. They were inseparable. I’d walk past the bedroom door, and Darwyn would be under the covers with the cat… “Darwyn… What’s going on between you and that little snitty, there,” I’d say in a dark tone. The covers would start to quake from Darwyn laughing underneath them.
Tigger is gone now. So is Liberty. Ahna left us the week before Darwyn – and Piglet has been gone some years. I hope in that next place that none of us understands that they all were waiting for Darwyn to welcome him. With snitty nuzzles and husky licks. All under the covers together, without a care in the world.
To know that Darwyn is gone – is to know that the world is a less kind and gentle place.
I understand that things changed. Maybe – got darker for Darwyn. That’s tragic. Because my memory is of a happy Darwyn without a care in the world.
A special boy. A special young man. A special soul. So sorely missed from this life.
Sleep well, Son. I pray that you are at rest from what tormented you in this life.
    Love you, Buddy. xo
