BACKSTROM, Sigbritt “Sabie”
1947-2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sigbritt “Sabie” Backstrom on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the age of 78.
Beloved best friend and wife of Marcel Rheaume for 45 years. Dear sister of Berit Paddison (late Terry), Christina Kelly (Jack), Gladys Myers (Don), and Carl “Arne” (Carol). Predeceased by her parents Arnold & Anni (née Akersten) and brother Robert Backstrom (Debbie).
Sabie was born in Finland and moved to Canada in 1950, where she built a beautiful life surrounded by family, friends, and adventure. She had a deep love for traveling and enjoyed exploring the world, taking more than 20 cruises throughout her lifetime. Some of her best memories were made on the golf course, where she shared many wonderful days golfing together with loved ones.
Sabie will be remembered for her warm spirit, love of life, and the countless joyful moments she created with those around her.
In keeping with Sabie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Her final resting place will be in Sault Ste. Marie, where she will be laid to rest with her mother. Arrangements have been entrusted to Tranquility Burial & Cremation Services (Niagara) Inc. Condolences can be shared at tranquility-cremation.local/
