Axiak, Ivo
Ivo Axiak
It is with sorrow and solace that we celebrate Ivo Axiak’s passing. Ivo was a devoted and loving husband to his late wife Mary (nee Darmanin) and a caring father to James (Darlene), Joanna (Sami) and Rob (Joanna-Michela, Stefan). He was a proud nannu of five grandchildren: Michael, Megan, Camren, Colton, and Rayane. Ivo passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of love, generosity, and cherished memories. Born in Gozo (Malta), Ivo was one of nine siblings, some of whom he joins in spirit. Beloved by his nieces and nephews, Ivo was a great uncle. Passionate about Big Band music, he brought an unmatched rhythm to the dance floor enjoyed by all at family weddings. Ivo’s care for family extended beyond borders to Malta. He was a hard-working man who put family before everything. His love and care for those close to him will forever be remembered. Those who knew him were touched by his kindness and generosity. Ivo will be deeply missed but will forever remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace. The Axiak family wishes to thank all the staff, the nurses and the doctors at The Meadows who cared for Ivo with compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated on behalf of our mother at www.parkinson.ca.
Joanna, James, and Rob,
I am so saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. Some of my best memories as a child are time spent with ‘the nannas and nannus’ at the beach, at parties, and any anywhere we could gather as a large extended family. The life that they built for us here and they joy that they gave to us as children is such a part of me always. Your dad was such a kind and generous man. I am so sorry I couldn’t be there for his service but I am thinking of you all and your families. XX
This poem, written by Ivo’s daughter Joanna Axiak, is to express her father’s feelings as his children and grandchildren go on with their lives:
After I’m Gone, a poem by daughter Joanna Axiak
Hush
Do not make a fuss
when I am gone.
Take the lessons I taught you,
and carry on
There is a Harvest Moon
rising this night
Gather together
and celebrate the light
It won’t be long now
I’ve often said
Take my words and rest
your weary head
Time is not ours
But I’ve lived a good life
It’s been long and wonderful,
but not without strife
Be there for eachother
Work hard and stay true
And always remember,
My heart is with you
We are so sad to hear about the passing of Uncle Ivo. Sending you all love and comfort during this most difficult time. All of our love, Eric ,Stephanie, Serena, Gemma and Theo
A handsome, young Ivo.
Dear Joanna, James and Rob: I am so very sorry for the loss of your amazing dad and my Unce Ivo. My siblings and I have such fond memories of when we were children your dad would visit us on many weekends and he would tell us such
funny stories both real and fiction.
He would make us laugh. We looked forward to his visits. There were many more visits when he met and married your beautiful mom and also when you became a family of five. The many parties at each others homes, family reunions, beach picnics, weddings and so much more. I cherish these memories and will last a lifetime. Your dad always welcomed us with a big smile and a hug. Uncle Ivo, you will be greatly missed and we love you so much. Say hi to your sister and my mama and the rest of the family that are with you. Xo
Please note: The earthly remains of Ivo Axiak will be lovingly laid to rest alongside his beloved wife Mary, united in the Niche at Resurrection Cemetery this Saturday September 28. May their souls rest in eternal peace, awaiting the promise of the resurrection in Christ.
