It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Herb, on October 31, 2026 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of 48 years to Mary, loving father to Kelly (Brently) and Kristi, funny Grampsy Gramps to Emily and Wesley, older brother to Mike (Gina), and warmly remembered by his extended family and friends.
Herb was a Class “A” Professional of the PGA of Canada for 56 years. He felt he played golf in the best of times and spoke fondly of three golf courses that shaped his career and left a lasting impression on his life: Scarboro G&CC, Thunderbird GC (now Royal Ashburn GC) and Weston G&CC, which is where he devoted 28 years of his career serving the membership. With his quick wit, dry humour and encouraging words, Herb shared his love of the game with everyone around him.
Beyond the golf course, Herb cherished time he spent with family and friends. Whether trading jokes with his two beloved grandchildren, sharing a laugh over a story from years past or simply enjoying a quiet moment in the yard watching the animals, he found joy in the company of those he loved. We are comforted knowing that he is now where the sky is always clear, the fairways are always green and the putts are always made. May he be forever remembered with a smile and a favourite “Herb” story.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 7, 2026 from 10am-1pm at Weston G&CC.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society can be made in memory of Herb https://cancer.ca/en/ways-to-give

Our deepest condolences to Mary, Kelly, Kristi, Brently, Emmy and Wes.
Uncle Herb will always hold a special place in my memories. I fondly remember all the family holidays at Oma and Opa’s, where he would always take the time to ask my brother and I about the sports we were playing, how we were doing, and what was going on in our lives. And, of course, there was always a perfectly timed pun cleverly slipped into the conversation, which often went right over our heads.
As we got older, we came to appreciate those moments for what they were: Uncle Herb was putting on a Master Class for ‘Dad Jokes’!
Herb usually occupied the South end of the long kitchen table(s) those days in Myrtle, might have been due to the proximity to the Turkey!
Thank you for those memories, Uncle Herb. You will be missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace.

Dear family,
We did not know Herb for a long time but it was enough to get to know him as a man who was in balance with himself and the people around him. What can we wish more?
Our deepest condolences go to the family and friends

I still remember meeting Herd for the first time at Pearson airport. I was coming up for Christmas, and the family picked Kelly and me up in this sweet minivan. Herb was driving, carrying on a lively conversation while cussing out the transports and bad drivers. Right then, I knew I was getting the best father-in-law anyone could have hoped for.
Herd, you helped put the pieces of my family puzzle together. Thank you for being the kind of man who built a strong marriage and raised two wonderful daughters. I will cherish our rounds of golf, our backyard talks, and the memory of you walking your firstborn down the aisle. Next time, we are taking that table home!
Love you Herd Grampsey Gramps Holzscheiter. You will always have a middle name.

My sincerest condolences to Mary, the entire family and Herbie’s numerous
friends. It was my distinct pleasure and privilege to work with Herb at Weston for 8 years. His personality and professionalism were equally fantastic. Having a coffee with him or a round of golf were things I always looked forward to. RIP my friend.
