Zakrzewski, John

John Zakrzewski

June 17-1931 – April 25-2020

With shattered hearts we announce the sudden passing of our precious dad “Big” John Stan Zakrzewski on Saturday April 25-2020 at CMH.

Survived by his loving sons Wesley (Deborah) and Richard who miss him beyond words can express.  Family is the most important thing to dad and his love and care defined the meaning.  He was the foundation and the rock of our family, who’s generosity in every definition of the word showed no boundaries.  His big bear hugs made you feel safe and at home.  No matter what you needed, dad was there for you in any way he could help; he was a very special man and only the strength he gave us can help pull us through this agonizing time.

Dad was born in Poland just outside Warsaw. On Feb 10 1939, dad and his whole family were evacuated to Archangelsk by the Soviets during WWII where they were held for 2 years at a Siberian labor camp.  When amnesty occurred, the family was transferred to many camps; Teheran Iran, Afghanistan, Bombay (Mumbai) India, from Bombay across the Indian ocean to Mombasa in Kenya, by train to Masindi in Uganda Africa.  After 6 years of living in these various Polish refugee camps, the family made it to England.  Dad entered the construction industry to help rebuild London after the devastation.

Dad came to Canada in 1952 and after living in various cities, met the love of his life Anna.  They married in November of 1964 and defined the love of marriage for 55 wonderful years; the only solace we can find is that Mom and Dad are together again.

Dad always had welcoming open arms for anyone he met and was the life of the party with his wit and awesome sense of humor; His technical skills and ingenuity always amazed with what invention or solution to a problem he came up with.  The loss of such an incredible and talented man leaves a massive void in our hearts and souls.  Wujek will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada, Poland and by her sister in law Lola.  Dad was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and was a dear friend to many.  Love you forever Tatuś…

In keeping with dads wishes, there will be no visitation.  Cremation has taken place and with the added crisis we are all experiencing a funeral mass will take place at St. Clement’s Catholic Church when we are able to gather together safely and celebrate the life of this wonderful man.

My godfather was indeed a great man. He’ll be missed by family and friends. Always enjoyed when “Pan Janek” and “Pani Hania” got together with my folks for get togethers at the lake, bbqs and family functions.
