Winnacott, Mardy Ann (nee Gill)
MARDY ANNE WINNACOTT
November 25, 1953 – November 30, 2024
We are sad to inform you that Mardy Anne Winnacott ( nee Gill ) passed
away peacefully on November 30, 2024 due to complications of
Alzheimer’s. She is mourned by her loving husband Bruce, her cherished
children Kirsten and Maxx, and dear friends and relatives. She is survived
by her siblings, Tracy (Jim) and Doug (Karen).
Mardy was born in Etobicoke to Howard and Mildred (Gray) Gill and
attended Mimico High where she met Bruce. She went on to study music
and English at the University of Guelph. She was a dedicated, caring
teacher at Cedarbrae Collegiate and L’Amoreaux Collegiate in
Scarborough. A woman of integrity and kindness, Mardy’s quiet strength
was admirable. Unfortunately, her teaching career was cut short due to
injuries sustained in a bad car accident. After early retirement, Mardy,
Bruce and Kirsten moved to Port Rowan where she was active in her
community.
Her family came first to Mardy; however, her many other interests included
music, the Blue Jays, golf, travel, card games, scrabble, knitting, watching
hockey and reading, especially mystery novels. Mardy loved to go
camping in their RV and she, Bruce and Kirsten took many memorable
trips south with Disney World a favourite destination. She was always
ready to stop for a coffee and an apple fritter at Tim Hortons.
We wish to thank the Alzheimer’s Society in Simcoe for their support and
especially Mary Brown for her care and compassion.
Mardy will be dearly missed, but forever remembered in the hearts of all
who knew and loved her.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
