VANSICKLE, Dorothy Ethel
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy. Dorothy passed away peacefully with her family by her side, at St. Joe’s Lifecare Centre on Monday October 7, 2019 in her 96th year. Dorothy is predeceased by her loving husband Thomas (1994). Much loved and respected mother to Howard (Brenda), Marvin (Linda), Allen (the late Jill), Mary Ann (Danny), Doug (Kathy), and Joan. Predeceased by her daughter Audrey (2013), and great granddaughter Angel (2000). She will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten by her 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her siblings Joyce Motheral, Shirley Peters and Sonny Markle. Predeceased by her sisters Erma Byers, Ruby Berrisford and Norma Belisle. Dorothy was born and raised in Onondaga Township. In 1951 Dorothy and Tom purchased the farm that she called home until the day she died. They raised their family of 7 children there. Dorothy was proud of the work ethic the farm instilled in all of her children. She was a hardworking homemaker who loved looking after her family. The farm had the most welcoming atmosphere. She made everyone feel at home as soon as they walked in the door. There was always a good chance when you visited that someone else would be there enjoying her hospitality. Holidays were especially important to Dorothy. Her Christmas and New Years gatherings were legendary events that the entire family looked forward to all year long. She hosted Christmas at the farm for 62 years with many generations in attendance. Her cookie jar was always full for everyone to enjoy, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy always had time for her grandchildren and would join in on a game of baseball when asked. The memory of her sliding into first base will be forever etched into the minds of all the grandchildren that were present. She loved “Dancing with the Stars” and hockey. She was sharp as a tack right up until the end and her sense of humour never wavered. As per Dorothy’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Onondaga will take place at a later date. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
