In Loving Memory of Ethel Cowie Johnston Thayer (nee Murray)
December 21, 1939 – February 13, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ethel Thayer on February 13, 2025 in her 86th year.
Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on December 21, 1939, Ethel moved to Hamilton, Ontario in 1953. Ethel was the heart of her family. She shared an extraordinary 61 years with her husband, best friend, and confidant, Bob Thayer. Ethel was a beloved mother to Sandy. Ethel was predeceased by her loving son Scott (Louise) and her loving parents, Alexander and Adeline Murray. Ethel was a cherished grandma to Riley, Mackenzie, Alexandra and Jack. Her love for her family knew no bounds – and her compassionate heart and legacy will always be remembered.
Known for her exceptional ability to support, educate and encourage, pushing new boundaries, Ethel’s warmth, and boundless positivity touched the lives of many including and extending well beyond her family.
Ethel’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, treasured friends, and all those who were touched by her presence.
Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to all of mom’s physicians and particularly her caregivers and nurses. Your collective kindness and care has left an indelible mark on our hearts.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday May 2nd, 2025 from 4pm-7pm at the Port Credit Yacht Club, 115 Lakefront Promenade, Mississauga, L5E 3G6.
In lieu of flowers, donations to People for Education would be appreciated.
