Robbins, George Allen

Peacefully on April 25, 2020 George Allen Robbins relocated from his home on earth to his home in heaven.

Born on the homestead in Crane River, Manitoba on May 12, 1927 to William and Alice (Cluff) Robbins, the second oldest of 4 boys, he moved to Toronto in the early 50’s where he met the love of his life Nora (Maughan) and married in 1952.

George was the loving and devoted husband to Nora for 68 years.

He was the most caring and humble man that his children have ever known and left a beautiful example for them to follow.  Deeply loved by his children, Donna (Jim) Burkholder, David Robbins, Darlene (Larry) Holderman, and grandchildren Kevin (Rebekah) Burkholder, Beth (Free) Toda, Amanda (Dan) Jeffries, Sarah Burkholder, Michael (Holly) Burkholder, Matthew (fiancé Rebekah) Holderman, Daniel (Jodi) Burkholder and great grandchildren Alexis Jeffries, Brigham Burkholder, Malachi Toda, Joel Burkholder and two more arriving shortly.

George is pre-deceased by his parents William and Alice Robbins, brother Bill Robbins, sister-in-law Esther Robbins. He is survived by his two brothers Samuel Robbins, and David Robbins and sister-in-laws Beryl (Samuel) Robbins and Caroline (Bill) Robbins.

George was well known in the life insurance industry from the mid 1950’s in Toronto, moving in 1972 to Waterloo and eventually beginning his own business Rates “R” Us, retiring in his late seventies.

He was involved in many areas at his church including Sunday school superintendent, sound technician, puppet team leader, youth leader, chair of the finance committee, and missions trips with the youth group.

In his spare time at home, he was rarely found without a tool in his hand  building or repairing something.  He was constantly finding ways to improve things, never losing his sense of curiosity.
Always gracious and willing to help others, especially his family, he lived his life quietly doing what was needed. He never had a harsh word to say, and never complained and always led by example.  He had a true servant’s heart.

A  private family burial will be taking place at Williamsburg Cemetery. Our thanks to Tranquillity Burial and Cremation Services for their compassionate care during this time.   In lieu of flowers, donations to First Baptist Church, Waterloo, where George was a long time member, would be appreciated.

Mr. Robbins was an exceptional man – soft spoken with his words, but he spoke loudest through his actions and the compassion he had for others. He was a servant of the Lord who truly emanated God’s love and patience. Both Mr. and Mrs. Robbins have had a big impact on our lives. They invested so much time on our family and especially in the lives of Charlie, Eddie and Debbie – willingly providing godly leadership in various ministries at FBC, such as puppets and speeches, year after year.

Our deepest condolences to you and your family. Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this time. We will miss Mr. Robbins and his kind and gentle spirit very much. He was a great role model and a true reflection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Although we will miss him, we know he is with the Lord in heaven, and that we will meet him again one day.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will reward me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all those who have longed for His appearing.”

A quiet man with a servant’s heart, George played a key role in the various ministries he was involved in. Paul worked with him on the Finance Committee of the church for several years and always appreciated his sound counsel and opinions.

Those years serving in the youth ministry with George and Nora, where they offered their mature perspective, were a highlight for us. George was also instrumental in assembling the “nuts and bolts” of a puppet ministry that our children were active in.

When they took the trailer to Port Burwell, we enjoyed our visits as a family with them at their campsite.

And in later years, when we were in separate places, we always appreciated the opportunities to catch up.

Although he so often laboured gently behind the scenes, with Nora his constant companion, his life was impactful, and perhaps best remembered by the chorus of that Ray Boltz classic: “Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am a life that was changed. Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am so glad you gave.”

    We will remember him fondly.

To Aunt Nora & family. Our sincere condolences on the loss of Uncle George, from myself and Metro and our daughter Candace and husband Derek. He was a wonderful man. I remember their many visits they made to Manitoba over the years and the visit Metro, myself and Candace made to Waterloo & Kitchener in 1986 to visit everyone. I enjoy looking back at all the pictures I have of Uncle George, Aunt Nora and all the family. Many memories to cherish.

We extend our thoughts and prayers during these days. We recall many fond memories with George and Nora. They both poured so much into the church ministry, especially with the puppet outreach and sound systems. George always took care of Nora in such a selfless manner. Blessings to all the family.

My sincere sympathy to the entire family. As stated in the above obituary, George was such a caring, loving, gentle man and he will really be missed and has been missed since his health started to fail. Earth is much poorer but we know he is in Heaven with the Saviour that he deeply loved. John 14:1-6.
