Ritchie, Laurie Douglas (Johnson)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Laurie Douglas Ritchie (Johnson).

Laurie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a brief illness on December 28, 2024.

She is survived by her sons, Doug Johnson (Wendy McAllister) of Thunder Bay, Bob Johnson (Yvette Simpson) of Georgetown

and Jim Johnson (Kim Montague) of Brantford. Her granddaughter Sarah Johnson (Erik Krebs) of Norway House MB

and great grandchildren Charlie and Audrey Krebs. Her grandson Chris Johnson (Brooklyn Richardson) of Brantford.

She is predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Ethel Ritchie (Andrews), her sisters Beth Brears (Earl), Isabelle Heaven (Donald)

and her husband David Johnson (1993).

Mom was born and grew up in Acton. She married David in 1960 and had a family, later living in Milton and then Cambridge.

She had a long career with the Halton District School Board working in the offices of several schools including Milton District High School and E.C. Drury High School. After retiring from the school board, she was self-employed and worked several years, doing house cleaning in the Cambridge area.

Mom loved her home and garden. She loved dogs, having had a few of her own and she would always be willing to “dog sit” for friends and family.

She was an excellent baker. We will all miss her butter tarts, cookies and of course her “air pie”. She would even bake her own dog biscuits for any 4-legged visitors.

Laurie was also blessed with excellent neighbours who were helpful to her when she needed them, and she always spoke highly of them. The children on the street knew where to find the cookie jar.

We would like to thank the hospital staff and the home care professionals that supported her during her illness. Friends and family that came by to offer support while she was ill. We couldn’t have cared for her without all their efforts.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date, in better weather.

Donations in her name can be made to The Foundation of  Guelph General Hospital.
