Rice, Betty Lorraine

Betty Lorraine Rice

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Lorraine Rice, who left this world on January 25, 2025 at North York General Hospital in her 94th year.

Betty was born on July 30, 1931 in Toronto and grew up in a small war time house in the downtown.

Much of her career was in the Graphic Arts Industry where she worked as an office manager at Allworth Ltd until her retirement in 1997.

After retirement Betty travelled with her mother and other family/friends on Bus Tours and Cruises. She enjoyed her time engaging in water colour painting courses as well as reading books and magazines. She was quite proud of her transcript work with Jean Portugal on the chronicled stories of Canadian War Veterans: “We Were There”.

Betty loved her time at the West Scarborough Community Center Seniors Club where she went weekly for Carpet Bowling, Dominoes and Bid Euchre; she attended all the functions and a majority of trips organized by the club. She was a Toronto Blue Jays Superfan and would never miss watching a game and ensured her Blue Jays ‘book’ was kept up to date with all the current statistics. The Toronto Maple Leaf hockey games also kept her invigorated and entertained, and sometimes frustrated. She was always up for a yard game or family game night and was particularly strategic at Cribbage.

Betty is survived by a son Ronald Rice/Trudy-Lyn Wittig, Grandsons Chad Wittig-Rice, Neil Wittig-Rice and Lane Wittig-Rice. She was Predeceased by her Father (Nelson George Nash) and her Mother Edith Gertrude Nash of Toronto. She was loved and appreciated by the extended Wittig Family, Cousins and Friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

Rest in Peace Betty, you will be missed by all who knew and loved you.

The family will be holding a drop in Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 8th from 1-4pm at 1338 York Mills Road, Unit 312 North York. Light refreshments will be served. Visitor parking is available at the condominium building and on side streets. Upon arrival use code 136 to obtain entry.
