Marcia Eleanor Reid (nee Thomas)

Affectionately known as “Madre” and “Nana”

Marcia Eleanor Reid, born on October 21, 1938, in Vancouver, British Columbia, passed away peacefully at her home in Cheltenham, Ontario, surrounded by her loved ones on December 6, 2024.

Daughter of J. Bert Thomas and Irene (nee Beach), Marcia is survived by her beloved siblings, Beth, John, Gord, and Al. She leaves behind a deep legacy through her children, Richard (Lori), Michael, and Susan (John), along with her cherished grandchildren, Alex, Rachel, Andrew, and Sara, and her adored great-grandchildren, Anthony, Layla, Layne, Alice, and Auston.

Marcia’s captivating beauty in her youth drew many admirers, but it was her high school sweetheart, Tony (A.D.G. Reid, deceased 2013), who won her heart, beginning a journey filled with love and adventure. The couple moved from Vancouver to Montreal and eventually settled in North Toronto, where they raised their three children.

Embracing the vibrant spirit of the late 60s and early 70s, Marcia and Tony hosted memorable cocktail and dinner parties, relishing the exciting atmosphere of Toronto’s cultural scene. They enjoyed catching the big acts at the Royal York’s Imperial Room while also being part of the hip crowd at the Toronto Premiere of “Hair”.

The family created unforgettable memories skiing in Collingwood, cottaging in Georgian Bay, and riding horses in Caledon. Following her separation from Tony, Marcia co-founded the Deja Vue Art Gallery in Yorkville, Toronto’s first photographic art gallery, where she flourished as an entrepreneur. However, her heart longed for the countryside, leading her to Caledon, where she immersed herself in equestrian pursuits and upscale rural real estate.

For nearly 40 years, Marcia was a respected and active real estate agent in the Caledon area, known for her sharp eye and shrewd business skills.  She had a deep love for dogs and horses.  She was often accompanied by her loyal Jack Russell, Ranger, on visits to her daughter, Sue, and son-in-law, John, in Laguna, California.

Always in motion, Marcia found joy in riding, tennis, and hiking in Terra Cotta and Belfountain, though skiing was never her favorite.  She was also an accomplished flamenco dancer and pianist, showcasing her artistic spirit.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Farzana, Marcia’s caregiver, for her compassionate support in Marcia’s final days.

A gathering to celebrate Marcia’s life will be held at her home on February 1, 2025 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethell Hospice in Inglewood, Ontario.

I am so very sad to hear of Marcia’s passing.
She was and incredible lady who was so passionate about horses and dogs. Her beloved Jessie was my Jack Russell Teddy’s good friend. I will miss her terribly. I am so sorry for the whole family. Marcia was so loved by many including me. My heart goes out to you
