LYONS, Julia Marlane
“The trick is to keep breathing” (The tattoo she wore proudly) – Born in Stratford, Ontario on July 18, 1983, left us at sunrise on June 1, 2011, surrounded by her family at the Palliative Care Unit at Brantford Ontario. Julia attended Avon Public School, King Lear, Northwestern and Central Secondary Schools. Julia was a provincial scholar and attended Wilfrid Laurier University. Julia fought for life each and every day. Her family became active volunteers for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. On June 21, 1998 she was given the first gift of life of new lungs, again she fought hard to stay with us. Afterwards she became a dedicated volunteer for the Toronto Lung Transplant Program, sharing her story with those waiting for this gift. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Bandshell in Upper Queens Park, Stratford beginning at 11 a.m. This is an open event. Please bring a picnic and your family to share your memories with all those who loved her. No suits or dark clothes allowed. Derek Strachan, MDiv,BA, Spiritual Care, Multi Organ Transplant Unit, Toronto General Hospital, will be a guest speaker.
