Kozak, Davis
KOZAK, Davis
January 18, 1930 ─ October 29, 2020
Peacefully, on October 29, 2020, at the age of 90, at Dorothy Ley Hospice with his children by his
side. Loving father of Mike (Maria), John (late Sandy), and Karen (Gary). Grandfather to Derek
(Patricia) and Caylie (Etienne). Brother to Bette Buckingham. Predeceased by his parents, John and
Katherine Kozak, brothers Tony and Alex, and sister Frances.
Born in Torquay, Saskatchewan, and settling in nearby Yellow Grass, Dave told stories of playing
billiards there, as well as pick-up hockey using magazines for knee pads and frozen cow ‘patties’ for
hockey pucks. He left Yellow Grass Saskatchewan in search of work, after flipping a coin to
determine whether to go east or west. Landing in the Lakeshore area of Etobicoke, Ontario, Dave
obtained his Certificates of Qualification for Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) and Stationary
Engineer Third Class. He had a long career with Canox in Long Branch, and subsequently worked for
the Ministry of the Environment on the shores of Lake Ontario in Mississauga.
Dave lived life to the fullest, obtaining his Private Pilot’s Licence, Skydiving, Scuba Diving, Hang
Gliding, Waterskiing, Snow Skiing, White Water Rafting (with his niece Cathy), Rollerblading,
Coaching Hockey, Competitive Swimming, painting, and following his children in their milestones.
He spent many years in Florida for Spring Training with his son Mike and the Montreal Expos, and
then the Florida Marlins. Dave’s passions were animals and nature, sports and being outdoors, and
anything to do with aircraft and flying, and making people laugh.
As per Dave’s wishes, the family will honour and celebrate his life privately.
Special appreciation is given by the Kozak family to Dorothy Ley Hospice, and their tireless and
compassionate people and work.
